I want to replace my front windscreen as the old one is damaged and wonder if anyone has had experience with sourcing a screen from W&N in tems of packaging for shipping and also any fitting issues. My local BMW dealership thinks it may be able to source one from Germany but with the other seals/trim etc it will cost double the W&N items. Any thoughts?

Hey John,

I recently had a screen supplied to me by BMW NZ (genuine part, but made in Turkey) I cost me the same amount as what the cheaper screen from WN was going to be including freight.

HOWEVER!

When we got the screen it was a lemon, way out of shape and definitely couldn't be put in the car, I ended up putting the old one back in.

Having said this, someone else on the forum had a screen from BMW recently and it went in no problem, so ????

Good luck with what ever way you end up going.

Steve

Hi!
I bought a whole set of windows to my coupe from W & N. All matched very well, no problems!

Thanks for the feedback guys, so far still too early to judge othe coupe owners experiences, so keep the comments coming guys.

A local BMW specialist ( plug coming up Matt Kane at Bimmertech in Balgowlah Sydney) has managed to source a screen from BMW for lot less than first quoted, so possibly the way forward is a genuine BMW screen, and trim ect from W&N ??

I still see problems coming up,if like Steve I get a screen that won't fit, because i dought the dealer will want to take it back. Or do I go W&N and possibly have too ship a screen back and forth to Germany.......Arghhh

More info needed !!!!!

Yep, that can happen, the dealer here in NZ didn't want to know about taking my screen back, luckily it's on the insurance company and not my problem.

If I was you I would get through a local dealer (no freight hassle etc) but just make sure first, if it don't fit they will take it back

IMHO,

as this is a delicate issue, i would leave it to the dealer, i mean the whole thing,
if it does not fit, they will be in charge for a solution

BTW, W&N rubbers are probably not the best quality you can get (they refabricate some of their rubbers in india, just as bmw does sometimes in china, yes, but the quality control is not the same),

and a bad point on W&N is that they do not declare what are you going to receive from them, an example, a friend bought a set of door rubbers for an e21, left side was ok, right side was a shame replica that had not the right pattern on the carrier, i am not that purist, but at least when i buy a set i want the same shape left and right hand,...,

i had bought dozens of items to W&N in the last six years, (when the web page was not that good), they are cheaper, and easier to buy, but if you ask the german guys you will learn that they buy very few items from them, and normally they do when local pickup gives you the chance of seeing the part with your own eyes

i had bought great NOS parts from them, but always when i had been able to visit them personally

again, the dealer or NOS is my reccommendation

incidentally I got a set of NOS rubbers some months ago, they were really gooood
