What is too small for a steering wheel?

Aesthetically, what looks too small? I'm seeing some decent looking classic MOMO wheels on eBay for roughly $300 with hub.

The MOMO wheel on my old 944 worked great for that car, but would look too small (and out of place) on my e9.

The car is not stock; I'm going for mild hot rod, with recaro seats, and it will see some autocrossing and hopefully a hill climb or two. And plenty of spirited driving locally on the back roads.

I think 35 is way too small and looks out of place but some like it. I think 39 is nice considering originals were 41 or so.
 
Most of the "affordable" or new momo wheels are "350". I had a 350 momo that I sold, not because of the wheel diameter. It had a really thick grip which looks more out of place to me than a small wheel. A friend of mine has a 350mm Alpina on his CSL and I think it looks great.

Lots of members run 360mm Nardi wheels and they look good in my opinion. I think the 390mm Nardi looks nicer though. Mine really compliments my water damaged / cracked dashboard if I do say so myself!

Both 380mm and 400mm Petris look nice. I think 380mm is just about right for classic but sporty. It's hard to find 380mm momo wheels for under $500, with exception to the four spoke Alpina wheel. You can buy that wheel new from W&N for around $400. A used momo accordion hub should be $40-$60. Solid momo hubs are closer to $150 if you can find one (if one comes available I just might beat you to the punch). :)

My car came with a wood 350 and it was awful. Felt and looked wrong.

I once fitted a 35cm Momo Prototipo for a day and it looked and felt out of character with the coupe. It also blocked some of the view of the instrumentation and with it, your coupe better have power steering. Could not have gotten it out fast enough.

I have a 14" Grant that I fitted a hub to if you would like to try it out. Just pay shipping to and from unless you like to buy it after trying it out. Wheel size 380 + is the best fit for our cars IMHO.
 
Not sure if you are in the market for a wood wheel, but this one is 365mm, inexpensive, and very nicely made. I have one in my CS and a friend has one in his 2002. I like the size.

if not wrong, this is 370mm, a raid, IMHO perfect combination for a scheel driving experience, but probably not a perfect match for the coupe (that looks better in a Petri style)

May not look right, but I prefer a 360 (14"?).

I got long-ish legs and don't like the bottom of the wheel hitting my legs. Plus, since these cars has no tilt wheel, it's nice not having to reach way high up for the top of the steering wheel.

I've got a similar issue. I'm 6'5. I'm planning on installing recaros, which I hope will help with this. In my old GTV, it was a huge issue. In a hard right hand turn in second gear, my right leg, the shift knob and the wheel/my hand would all come together, unless I was WOT :).

Shoot me a PM with what you are looking for, and what your price range is. I'm always on high alert for steering wheels. I certainly don't need any more. You can get a good Nardi for $250 or less. I spent $120 on my 390mm Nardi after selling the attached Jaguar hub, but spent $20 for a used trim ring. The cheapest "ND" horn buttons are $50 and the good BMW buttons are $150. You can get a BMW hub for $150 or less. If you are set on a Nardi, I actually know of an old solid hub for sale. If you can find a package deal, you may end up ahead. Just don't spend $700 to get there.
 
I have a Nardi as well but I don't like how small the wheel fit's your hand but the 390 is the right size. I use a 400 Petri and it is tight getting in and out but no so while driving. A 380 Petri would be a better fit and keeping my eye for one. My wife like's shoes and I like wheels :)
