Rubber valve stems? Headlight washers? Flag mirror? Four slat kidney grille? The correct early wheels though. Lack of attention to detail?

I suspect that this car came with the HL wipers.
I have only seen two cars with the supplementary fluid tank in the cowl. This is one of them.

why dont the wheels have any nomanclature

They are notoriously soft. If they were restored at any point in their life, the logos can vanish. I had mine chemically stripped and mine are still very faint.

How about a batmobile with HL wipers? Anyone else spot the Scheel emblems on the front seat?

My guess based on the Pepsi van is that the photo is from the mid 70’s.

Your last sentence hit the nail on the head ie describing the person and his mates who restored this car aka a flip car for profit !!!
If this car was restored by a real E9 person with love for this model , attention to detail would be on the money !!!, not on the profit !!!

Just for my edification, I count 5 stakes on the grill in satin black (paint?).

Is that correct?

I think the last, or fifth, slat you're seeing is just a reflection? The 5-slat grill is also less bulky around the edges (see pics)
This CSL should have a 5-slat grille with black anodized slats.

Bulky four slat grill:

Neat five slat grill:

ah, ok. Now I see the differences. thanks

Here is a a link to the 1974 grille options - great debate. In short, the 1974 models most
definitely received the four bar plastic grille. However, there is question as to whether some 1974 models received the five bar anodized aluminum CSL grille. Numerous BMW brochures hint to this, but BMW brochures aren’t a good source of the truth either. BMW tended to recycle images. With that said, we aren’t highlighting model year differences here, we are identifying model differences. Meaning, regardless of year, according to the parts book we should never see a CS with a CSL-specific grille. Numerous brochures display a 3.0CS with the CLS-specific five bar black aluminum grille.
