Hello. I’ve owned my e9 for 27 years. It was love at first sight. My first two cars were 2002’s so my affection for vintage BMW’s is long standing.
I’ve recently relocated to Delaware and am looking for referrals for a mechanic within driving distance (DE, MD, VA, PA). My trusted mechanic in NH is now too far for regular maintenance. I’ve just picked up my car from professional storage and discovered the indicator lights and wipers are now not functioning. This had already been replaced and fixed four years ago when I had a mechanical restoration done on the car so I don’t think wiring is the issue.
I’m not a DIY person when it comes to my car but if it would be a simple job to use some 220 grit on the contacts I’m willing to try with some encouragement. Meanwhile it won’t pass inspection.

Hi Seb - Doug Dolan (@Doug Dolan) has used Excluservice in MD for years and really likes them.

Another option is London Auto in Fairfax, VA just outside Washington DC. I know one of the guys who started that shop (@bmwski) - he's retired now - but the guys he trained to take over are still around.

I've also used the BMW guy at Eurasian and he was good, but I haven't lived in DC for five years now and I'm not sure he's still there.

Oh that's great! He is a good guy. Knows what he is doing and doesn't abuse you. I am really glad he worked out for you. Enjoy your E9!
 
Did you use Mario at VSR in NH? He is building an engine for me and scheduled to do a total restoration for me.

Sorry, Just now seeing your message. Yes, I used VSR and was very pleased with their work. I’m really glad I chose them because of reputation and how that does have an affect on value of the work later. Chris and team were great to deal with.
 
Are you are have you lived in Delaware? I need to register my car and the restrictions on an antique registration are more restrictive than in other states I’ve lived. “Not allowed for general transportation” makes it sound like I’m not allowed to exercise the car. Any advice?

I never used that kind of registration. I have normal tags and Haggerty insurance. Many of my older cars are titled in Montana. The BMW era cars are owned by my car dealership and I just have tags for them like a regular car.
 
Thanks. I’ve used antique/classic registration when available previously because I don’t have to have the car inspected routinely. I’ve had my car for 26 years and was thinking of selling it but I see now is not a good time so I’m just going to enjoy it some more. I hope all goes well for you on your restoration at VSR. I’m sure it will be beautiful when finished.

I’m new here,… I currently drive a E46 M3. I’ve been looking at & considering purchasing a well sorted E9. I’ve been doing searches here & general homework, to learn more about the cars, the companies that do restorations (particularly the European ones) as well as some of the dealers who list them.

Thanks for the reply & info - Much appreciated!

I’ve come across a his name a lot here! I did see the E9 you’re referring to. I love the Blue exterior, but I’m not a fan of the red interior. I know it’s a popular color for many people, but just not me. Lacking AC is also a negative for me. However, If it was a cognac brown leather interior,… he & I would probably be talking.
