Need Help finding someone to cover a Petri in leather, preferably in the US, not Europe and with good references. I know leatherworks.com has been recommended but I cannot find them anywhere. email [email protected].

BTW, the coupeguy is still here to help with parts or information, same email or text 970-215-4109. My website coupeguy.com was stolen, cannot retrieve, I wonder who would do that? However I can no longer supply fiberglass parts, my partner with control of the molds has just disappeared... POOF!

Who would do that? Perhaps the partner that disappeared with the molds???

Craft Customs is great…they have redone four steering wheels for me.
Craftcustoms.com
Thanks, appreciate it. Do you recall what they charged for a 380 petri? I found someone local in Ft Collins, CO but they want $600!

i would be curious to know if they have ever done a petri (either Craft Customs or the place in Ft. Collins). getting the stitching correct is the tough part.

these days its probably 100 RT shipping to most places - its a big box and shipping has become crazy expensive. i sent a very light box - 28 x 9 x 8 to the west coast + UPS wanted 55 bucks ground one way ... USPS wanted between 25

so Dan, what does it cost to have a petri recovered in Europe ... i know there are some people who do it over there and the workmanship is generally quite good.

I honestly dont recall, Scott, its been several years. Very good workmanship but takes a very long time. I would contact Gerrit if I wanted someone to work on a wheel over there.

@coupeguy : Hey Dan - what a coincidence! I asked for you here only some days ago: You may not remember, but I inspected 4355-002 for you when Klaus Gehring sold it in Germany some 20 years ago!?
And I bought some fiberglass parts from your homepage and you a set of Alpina 14 inch rims I sold on Ebay etc. But the 4355 is still a very lively memory in my E9 head (the Gehring brothers had three CSLs for sale at that time, one of them a carburetor previously in BMW Motorsport owbership).
Hope you are well!

Kind regards, Daniel

I’d inquired with Craft Customs back in 2022 and they were charging $450 back then. Therefore, I suspect the cost has probably gone up about $50-$100. Have not used their services, but I may use them to recover my 380mm Petri.

Here an excerpt from my email with them:

“The cost to reupholster your BMW steering wheel back to new leather specifications with Basting stitching is $449 plus shipping. We use only Top of the Line Premium Automotive Leather that exceeds industry standards. We can scive the ends of the leather to make a smooth termination at the ends of the spokes. The leather we use is about 1/16" thick, which is about the same as factory. Simply send in your steering wheel and we'll take care of the rest. Turnaround is about 2-3 weeks”.

I just requested a quote for an M-Technic 1987 steering wheel. Glad there is a good source...
