So one of the items that I was supposed to get with my engine was a 123 dizzy. Well someone took mine from my go home box. So I just said I’ll order and we will settle up.

Carl sent me the recommended one. But it’s the switched one.

Should I use the plus instead? I mean it’s not like my engine is hugely altered. It’s a Korman stage 1.

Any other advise?

It is a matter of what features you want. With switch the programs (16) are pre-programmed. The Tune+ allows you to make changes on your phone to the advance curve (should you need it) and an immobilizer that you can enable if you leave your car parked unattended at any time. That feature is probably worth the upgrade.

I also recommend that you spring for the "up-rated shaft with reverse oil groove," to slow down oil intrusion into the upper reaches of the distributor. A few here have found that to happen occasionally, with the gears to problem appears to happen less frequently.

I’m not sure I’m adventurous enough to make my own curves.

But I do like the immobilization feature. Not that I leave mine unattended that much. But it is cool.

Food for thought.

Only downside of the BlueTooth-based Tune+ is the inability to collect real-time telemetry like the older USB 123Tune. That said, I’m a tinkerer and love the ability to mess with the map without requiring 40 years of analogue experience to get all the settings right.

PS: Get a Victron Smart Battery Protect if all you need is a Bluetooth immobiliser.

Socrates - can you elaborate on how you collect telemetry? I have an older 123Tune.

LOL

I decided I will just go for the Switch... I cannot see myself messing around with all that extra stuff. I like to keep it simple on the old cars. This is about as advanced as I get which the old gals.

Starting to look like an Arduino project to get the telemetry from the 123Ignition’s USB interface. If you have the inclination, tools like Wireshark have a USB capture capability that would allow the protocol to be reversed engineered. All doable, with persistence and beer. Or someone else might have solved the problem already and kindly published the project on GitHub.
