Interesting list. I know his restomod isn’t to everybody’s taste, but we can add Robert Downey Jr to the list. It’s at least good to see a new generation of celebrities embracing these cars!
Yeah, but as others have said, if you gotta live with LA traffic maybe the auto isn’t a bad idea? There are many details to dislike on that build, but an S38 coupled to a 4 gear automatic transmission just makes me cry...
Don't get me wrong - I am absolutly open for automatic transmissions (the 5HP19 in a 330 is OK'ish with the Alpina flash, starting with the 8HPxx it becomes fun and a PDK is killer even on the track) - but my brain cannot align the characteristics of an S38 with a 4-gear automatic... Use the mighty low-rpm torque of the S38 for cruising? Maybe they completely changed the characteristics of engine and gearbox...Yeah, but as others have said, if you gotta live with LA traffic maybe the auto isn’t a bad idea?
Twiggy?Ian McLagan (Small Faces / Faces / Sticky Fingers) pictured with his coupe in 1972 - in period correct fashion !

How can somebody dressed like that… choose such a timelessly classy car?Ian McLagan (Small Faces / Faces / Sticky Fingers) pictured with his coupe in 1972 - in period correct fashion !

As somebody who was a teenager in the 70s and with that car having a 1973 license plate, when I was 14. 1973 was the year, I first remember seeing and loving E9s, I can still visualise it on the Kings Rd in London with an L plate. How can somebody dressed like that… choose such a timelessly classy car?
I’m surprised he didn’t import a Cadillac or something wild and over the top.
Almost sounds like a punk band outfit from the '80'sWith you all the way Pete. Let's go back even further, the late 50's. And let me describe the outfit of my dreams that I and my high school buddies would actually don with great puffed up Pride. No, not that Pride.
Black, spit-shined pointy shoes(we had a nasty name for them that I will only repeat in a PM, with embarrasment), black pegged pants(they tightened as they went down) with white saddle stitching on the outside seams, a pinker than pink sports jacket, a skinny black nubby tie, a blazing white shirt and half a bottle of "Stickum" in my long curly, duck-tail styled hair. My mother would dip the comb in the bottle and style away. She was the best Mom ever.
Don't get me started about the music, the alcohol and the girls. And yes, we were teenagers in love. No regrets, no remorse, just nostalgia now for that long ago time.
I saw Jackie O. driving her E3 through Peapack, NJ sometime in 1975 having stopped at Bob’s Flower Shop, the owners of which were my best friend’s parents. They said she was just ordering a bouquet: big deal.As far as Celebrity CSL owners, I really couldn't say. Notable CS owners or E3 Owners, see far below.
I do not mean to thwart your efforts. However, I would guess that given any type of car, a celebrity of one sort or another owned it or drove it or was pictured near it. While this usually means higher end cars (e.g., 911's, Mercedes, Bentleys and Range Rovers), I know of celebrities who have owned and driven ubiquitous Toyota's, Saabs, Pontiacs, and Ford Broncos. I also attended an event where cars were identified with previous celebrity owners only to hear a reliable family member say “we never owned it.”
That being said, I have heard of E9's for sale where the ads claimed the cars were previously owned by well known actors, politicians and sports figures. One problem is verifying ownership. Your present list at least has vin's.
Some celebrities collect cars and they become part of their persona. Other celebrities can be very private about their actual ownership of a particular car or item. They might even be visitors to this board. Vehicle titles may be in the name of a corporate entity. Then, there are situations where a celebrity actually buys or is given a vehicle and never even sets foot in it. It is only when the irresponsible nephew or the housekeeper strikes a shopping cart with the car that we hear about it. There are also those situations where a celebrity is merely seen driving the car or in a car they never owned. Because of this, I am uncomfortable dropping names and creating a fact that never was but could have been.
Although not an E9, the late Jackie Kennedy Onassis drove an amazon E3. This hit the auction news sometime ago. http://www.allbusiness.com/automotive/motor-vehicle-models-sedans/6562584-1.html
Here is a link to an ad for a csa that a well-known actor allegedly owned: http://www.themotoringenthusiast.com/cars/ck-cs I am just reporting what was printed and not the veracity of the report. I would guess that any of the well-known drivers of the marque, back in the day, were probably given courtesy cars that they drove. Whether this means they owned them, and should be on your list, is up to you. It is your list and I submit the list is practically endless if you look hard enough.
Wasn’t Elvis recently spotted driving with Alfred Nobel as his copilot in a Taiga Cs?
