Is supposed to go?

Installing a new AC temp switch as sensor wire (assuming that's what it is) as the old one broke when I installed a new becker a while back.

this is actually not a wire but the temp sensor probe which needs to be close to your evaporator to sense if it freezes up.
@HB Chris 's instructions are right.

Put the probe into position and test-drive the car running the AC to see if it cycles as expeted - the switch will turn on and off at an interval. You want to have the probe at a spot where it picks up before the evaporator freezes, but you do not want to cycle on/off every minute, so this might require a bit if testing before finding the right position (depth).

Do this before you fix your front plate and console sides.

The thermocouple probe goes correctly into the fins of the evaporator core.
Make sure you hit resistance after it goes through the hole in the plastic box and push it deep into the evaporator core itself. If you were to look inside of your evaporator, you would see that the probe initially was inserted into a copper sheath that went deep into the evaporator core.

The pictures shows where the wire goes towards the evaporator.

Thank you to all who responded!. This is all very helpful info. Will make this my next 'to-do'. Unfortunately I had to button everything up before HB responded. Had the center console torn down to solve an issue with my Becker Kurier install ( highly recommend Chrome London BTW if you are looking for a modernized vintage radio for your coupe). I won't be driving it for a few weeks, and it's otherwise 'winter' in Florida...
