2002 Turbo

Beautiful. They look so much better coated in Chamonix than Polaris IMHO.
Curious as to why it’s not a “Premium” listing. Was it your call or a BaT decision?
Last four Turbos were listed as premium. Two sold, two RNM.
GLWA!

Hi Chris

I hope you don't mind, I added this comment to your BAT post and then thought some others here might appreciate the comment ......

@HBChris, your friend the geek here

Although some people claim 12 in other colors, that is a little misleading as some of the early cars, including my chassis number one, were designated “special colors.” In fact, after much research (BMW was no help), chassis number 1 was painted Chamonix. I suppose, as the first car, that was special :-) …….so no doubt a few of the first dozen cars built in 1973, also got that designation, leading to the misleading 12.

Now to the actual cars made in different colors

1 in Taiga = Green
1 in Schwarz = Black
1 in Tampico = Beige
1 in Inka =Orange
1 in Pastelbalu = Blue
1 in Jadegrun= Green
and 1 in Verona = Red

So until proved otherwise, my number is seven cars in non-Chamonix or Polaris and five, maybe just like number one, called “special” but in fact not so in its paint color

Peter, great info. I had heard for years about a factory turbo in Schwarz and Inka although never have seen those ghosts in pictures or in person. That is cool to get this verified and had no idea about the other colors. Has anyone on here seen any of these in person or seen pics of them, any links? That must have taken a lot of research because I couldn't find anything on the Inka or Schwarz, it was all hearsay (although be it from some BMW vintage experts).

it just so happens that newest issue of BMWCCCA The Ultimate Classic has a photo of a Verona Turbo.

the first 2002 turbo i saw was in 1984 in the mountains east of Florence. it was chamonix and the turbo stripes on the side were in i believe green + blue. i didn't get a picture as i was flogging a Lancia up the mountain road to get to a meeting on the other side in Longiano.

my magazine arrived yesterday ... so i will have to open it up and read ... such a great magazine. THANKS Dirk for all that you do!
