Hi all!
Like many— long time E9 enthusiast here. The E9 has always been my "white whale", but the prices seemed to consistently outpace what I could justify.
While I've waited for my number to come up, I've tinkered with all manners of vehicles— new and old, fast and slow. 90s and 00s BMWs, 80s Japanese, some American muscle, old Land Rovers, lots of motorcycles...
Last year when my wife and I were expecting our first, I realized it was time for me to wrap up a few unfinished projects and get my hands on something that was closer to a completed car rather than a shell of one. The stars were aligning and I began my hunt.
This car, #4335126, came up for auction from a dealer on behalf of the estate of the guy who owned it since ~'76. While in very complete and original condition, the deferred engine maintenance would make any enthusiast cry. It's worse than it showed during auction, but nothing a couple weekends of wrenching won't solve.
Sienabraun was never really on my radar, but once I saw it, I fell in love. Even the seeping gaskets, rotten coolant, diving-board bumpers, and an automatic couldn't phase me.
Our baby ended up unexpectedly arriving early, and the auction hammered while we were in the hospital waiting around. Happy to report that I brought home two of my dreams that week.
Many road trips in our future, and I can't wait.
