Hi all,

I have no idea if this has been discussed already here but since I’m rebuilding my coupe I order from time to time some bolts and nuts from BMW. The point is that for some of them you need to order at least per 10. That can go quit rapidly run into a lot of money given the price of certain individual bolts and nuts from our friends in München.

I bought my coupe with just 30/40% of the parts and it therefore misses quit some original bolts and nuts. Per piece it’s just little money, and I don’t know if there is real demand from our members but given the fact that some are NLA or come in at least 10 or more maybe a suggestion to open a separate page for this or something, just thinking out loud. Any thoughts here or am I the only one?

Buy from Belmetric. There is a 9 page spreadsheet of every size screw and bolt in the car in the FAQ. Exactly where I don't recall but someone will chime in. I sat down with the list and the Belmetric website and ordered nearly everything smaller than M8 with washers, nuts etc. for every size. For every length. Either 25,50 or 100 of each. It's just so much easier to go to the organizer and pick out new hardware. I did plate every nut and bolt that came off the car and have that in reserve. But most parts are not perfect and I lose no sleep over having the wrong markings on the bolt heads. I know that future builds will also be easier because of my stock. I hate stopping what I am doing and waiting for hardware. Normally I prep every part or sub assembly and bag with the new and old hardware. I did all of this when the car went to the body shop. When it returns I have an entire car of prepped and organized parts. It makes assembly so enjoyable.

there are a few errors in my bolt / nut / screw / washer post in the FAQ. its mostly correct, but there are a few errors. i have found some of them while putting my car back together ... but its a good start. i totally agree with @Rudy3.0CS - i buy from Belmetric

That list is so amazing, who cares if there are errors? What's the downside? You have extra bolts in the drawer? I had fun ordering and organizing the entire haul of hardware. I am ready to build.
Super appreciative of the effort.

Definitely true, but I have found that when a set is perhaps 12 screws, those prices are multiples more expensive then buying Belmetric. Where I have found that useful is on subframes, engines etc. those larger sizes are expensive and getting exactly what you need is smart. That's why I had said I bought m8 and smaller.
Regardless of where, it's really valuable to have hardware on the shelf when you start to assemble a car. Nothing wastes more time than missing something small that costs $.09

That aforementioned PDF list of bolts & other bits is listed in this FAQ thread in post #10.

Having done multiple Coupes my parts bins are a lot more than I need now. I have very esoteric parts some of which are plated. I think an exchange/marketplace for these obscure and often times NLA parts is a good idea. They are lingering in my warehouse and it's not worth selling one offs maybe better to sell or give away in batches. There are also NLA hen's teeth that I have stowed away for the future that I wont offer and maintenance parts that keep my 2 Coupes up to snuff.
Scott @rsporsche does it make any sense to add a Forum category, below parts, called Exchange that would be for small inexpensive items, batch offers, exchange or Free?

I understand the replies given, and I am of course aware of the W&N options. But that are not the main parts that are difficult to source. It is what Ives says. I have checked belmetric, but it does for instance not have the Fillisterhead screw, with that I mean the ‘typical’ BMW ones (bigger head).

Yesterday I was making an order at the local bmw webshop for just the bolts, washers and nuts as in the picture attached (AC Evaporator). With ordering the minimum quantity it cost me 111 euros, which is insane and also did not place the order.

I’m not a 100% purist to have only bmw bolts and nuts because pricing made me buy from the belmetrics of this world in the past also. But if I can get original it has of course the preference and with more and more parts being NLA or require an order of at least 10 I was wondering how much interest there is in having original bmw nuts and bolts.
It is not to make money out of it, but if we can help eachother when I have 20 bolts/nuts left over, why not?

Of course I can ask in the parts section for #11 which is NLA, but just an idea.

Here are 5 organizers and a bucket I’ve accumulated and almost all of these are not needed for Sahara or Sixto. These parts just accumulate during multiple projects. No idea why I have so many BMW hose clamps. These parts could be used in a peace meal fashion to help someone make their Coupe or Sedan period correct. I’m glad to participate and contribute to a new category.
The parts are in compartments but laying them out on a flat surface would help someone identify a needed part or several.

I could only find these?
Belmetric seems to have only a few fillister head screws but none likely to interest BMW owners. They have rather more cheese head screws to chose from.
The two head styles are similar, but not the same with cheese heads being flat on top and fillisters being slightly domed. Both head styles are narrow to fit in tight spaces with the fillister being a bit taller to have more metal to make it harder for the bit to twist out.
I'll post a graphic from mcmaster.com with descriptions of both. Mcmaster has a broad selection, but I think Belmetric has better prices.
