i haven't done it on the coupe, but i did on the 2002. i will echo extensions + wobble sockets ... and the upper ones are a PITA to get loose and get back on.
If you are trying to take out just the trans, and leave the bellhousing, is it one of the external throw-out arm ones, like on the stock 4 speed? When I last did this job 20 years ago, there's a spring on the arm which prevents you from being able to just pull the trans out, you have to reach into the bellhousing and pop the spring off the shaft. It's part number 4 on the diagram:
Otherwise, you'll be sitting under the car, pulling on the trans, and it will come out a little bit, but not all the way. I remember it drove me nuts, I was poking around trying to figure out why the trans wasn't coming out for about 30 min.
I was hoping to lower the gearbox with the shifter platform attached. As per this blue book pic. I thought I should be able to disconnect the shifter at the pivot point to the shifter arm.
Are you saying, because my pivot pin is frozen…I could unbolt the shifter platform, remove the transmission support and lower the trans enough to release the clip on the transmission shifting arm to transmission joint? Thereby releasing the linkage from the transmission?
