FS - Inka 1972 3.0 CSL - VIN 2275029

i know this car is genuine since it had the hole with welded washer in firewall for hood prop rod and two large holes in rear underhood area for hood pins are there. also has two holes in trunk for prop rod bracket are also there. this car is genuine now whether it was before is irrelevant.

GLWS @coupeguy. Best wishes on your recovery.

I don’t see this mentioned other than the seats not being fixed. In this photo I see that the car clearly has a 3.0CS seats when the previous owner had the car. My guess is that the car was pillaged of key interior bits at some point. The car also had a glass rear windscreen with a visible defrost. I can’t imagine that it had perspex side windows that were tinted in 1995. What you can confirm below is that during this time it had the original headliner and notable black visors.

@coupeguy is certainly not the first owner to return a CSL to former glory, and also not the first to turn a city pack into a lightweight. I was pretty hard on Oldenzaaal for not disclosing their city-pack-to-lightweight updates. 30 years is a long tenure, but good to refresh your memory on what was replaced and/or repaired. I’m sure serious buyers can talk it out

Regarding the side markers, both of my euro spec e9’s had them. My 2800CS has them at all four corners and the parts car had them on the rear only. I’ve also seen bumpers reinforced with rebar. My 2800cs has a MPH speedo and the CSI has KPH. Federalizarion was all over the board.

How can something be genuine 'now' but not in the past? To my mind genuine equals OEM. A can can be modded to a higher specification than when was delivered (as OEM) but that does not make the upgrade 'genuine' even if correct parts are used as it is not the original specification.

while i understand what you are saying, i think the operative word is original vs. genuine ... two very different things. we can all put genuine parts on our car and that would probably not be original (possible, not probable). it sure looks as though the PO changed some things that had to be corrected ... and we see that the seats have been changed back to scheel mann seats. we see that it originally had glass and now it has perspex. we also see tinted glass, but didn't CSL come with clear glass on streetpack cars? we see that it previously had rear side markers and chrome bumpers and all of that has been shaved off. we see that it didn't have an air dam and now it does. Dan says they are all genuine parts ... he did not say original.

bottom line, an original 2275 streetpack car, originally inka and repainted inka ... in what looks to be very reasonable shape with a price tag of 160k. at that price, you have the headroom to fix / change anything and not be under water. you can either drive it as is or you can make it perfect. you could keep it or wait for the market to come back and make some money. i would probably dry ice the underside / strip the black off of the floor and get it correct. then i would enjoy it.

FYI - this is a note about the polaris bat2 that coupeguy mentioned in post #41 - NOT the inka 2275 car.

Oh - so it will probably no longer be at the Werk shop when I will go to Chicago end of May... Would have been nice to see it again after some 20 years and a full restoration :)

i'm not sure about Scott Hughes bat ... looks like a bat 1, but i don't have him in the ancestry project.

check with me before you go, there is a chance that it might still be there. i will stay in touch with the buyer to find out when its going to be shipped.

I have been involved with both of those cars at some point. The Inka car was in Berlin in 1990 and I even took a ride in it before the service man mentioned above shipped it to Texas. It was a city pack which should not be a surprise to anyone since it is listed as such in the parts book. The bat car was a swiss delivery which I took to Bremerhaven to be shipped to the US. Although this is already quite few years back, those cars are obviously legitimate.

love the first hand knowledge Gerrit ... appreciate you speaking up.

For 4355002, I remember well, Gerrit :)
Was great to see 3 different generations of CSL in one location at Klaus G's place; one of which beeing this 4355 bought by Dan.
I always wanted to ask: What happened to the carburetor CSL back then? And did it actually have a motorsport history with BMW Motorsport beeing first owner and the aluminium boot lid beeing deformed by a bat rear wing? I very much regret that I missed to buy one of these cars back then...
All the best, Daniel

Bump for Dan's inka CSL, there was a recent leak down test performed on the engine - pretty great result. the mechanic who did the test reported no rust was visible. we know this coupe has lived indoors since the late 90s, no knowledge of its prior life in Italy and Texas.

Thank heavens it wasn't at Tempelhof very long- The salt would have eaten it.. Berlin is a salty mess.

Car has reportedly good bones by those in Germany that drove it.
