Technical question for Experts...

It was told on the forum that these are mostly the reason of rust in E9s as they are gathering mud and dust.
Some told they should not be used to keep E9's last longer (for the cars with daily driving).

Will than Lokari be the solution and can replace the original small covers?

Link from other topic for reference

These were carried through on later year/ other model BMW's. I cannot imagine the engineers keeping something for years that was detrimental. Just my opinion but if the gasket is maintained , these work just fine.

Yeah, but also BMW stick to Karmann as a coachbuilder, and knew about the rust dilemma of our cars.

I'm going to install the provisions to install them (fastner wise) but I'm likely going to leave them out, and install Lokari's instead and give it a try.

Nice to have some options. It seems to be a nice good to have for CSL owners ;-)

For me. in Europe, where the salt is used on the roads (and still some residues are on the streets during the spring time). I'm considering hand-made stainless version.

Generally speaking it is true, but there are different types of and also thickness can be reduced ion comparison to aluminum.

I have seen such parts done for E9 in reality and as we know they will last longer than the car itself even.

That part will be fine in powder coated, cerakoted or properly painted aluminum. I look at those panels as maintenance items and removing them and cleaning behind them takes no time at all. Stainless seems pointless. They will never fail in a properly cared for car.
