I took my 71 to a guy to replace the windshield gasket, It took a long time to find someone to do this locally (Washington D.C. area). But due to the condition of the glass he recommended I start with a new windshield. Were can I get one that is not an arm and a leg in price?
 
Try Ebay item # 16613978657. Good news, it's in Atlanta. Good news, It's new. Bad news, it's expensive. Theres another guy in Atlanta that want's to sell the whole car with a good windshield and stainless for two grand, I could meet you half way there from Venice, Florida. I would buy some parts to get the price down further.

thanks but i will have to pass , my glass guy does not like used glass, I have a used windshield
 
He doesn't like used glass? It's not hard to do yourself...even easier with a friend. I believe this site has the rope method described. I've done it on used glass on some very expensive cars (not mine, but also done on my inexpensive ones..lol) and it's pretty straight forward..
 
I am not understanding the "used glass" issue unless there are chips or cracks. If used glass is compromised in any way, why would us classic car guys get behind the wheel of a classic car? Clearly he has no desire to do the job and should say that straight out.

Yep. Some people aren’t comfortable doing the old style seals and then don’t want the responsibility…but also don’t want to let you know that…lol
 
Glass gets brittle as it ages leading to cracking. The big shop I work with refuses to install old glass.
They want to get paid for work and a cracked windshield means no pay.
Critical to inspect old glass for chips and small cracks on edges if you do a re-install.
 
Slight twist on this thread: How difficult is it to get a shield and good rubber seal out of a parts car without destroying both parts? Its super easy to push an E30 windshield out with bare feet on a warm day with shield and rubber intact for example. My parts car clearly had a new seal at some point and I'm hoping to not have to cut it to get the good shield out.

This guy was recommended as a person who can install the gasket but even before seeing the car he was trying to find a new windshield but could not find one, he assumed old car old beat-up windshield, my windshield does have a small chip in the middle.. I do have a used windshield but i don't think he would want to install that one either

It’s not difficult. Mine was a Cali car, rubber was pretty good…I just removed the lock strip, and gently peeled the rubber from the inside to get it over the metal rib, and worked my way around to carefully push it out. Did it by myself.
