Well I am in shipping hell right now with UPS. Ordered a windshield from Walloth. Filled out the paperwork properly as instructed. Thought we were good. Took a while but it shipped with UPS. BTW… shipping costs as much as the windshield. I assumed it would.

Arrives in the US. Notified of customs duty. Paid said duty of $130.

UPS keeps sending emails… out for delivery today… tomorrow… this day that day. All while web site says it in Kentucky??? Now they say they need a commercial invoice? Send them the invoice from Walloth… nope not what we want… what do you want? A commercial invoice. AAAAAAUUUUUGGH!

Of course no one at UPS can answer a damn question… let me transfer you to X department… another department.

Three weeks and counting all while my windshield dude is waiting around for nothing.

I had the same exact experience.. stuck day after day in KY. I finally sent them the attached and that seemed to do the trick.. I have removed my info, but I left the W-N info on it. The rest is either your personal info, or from the W-N invoice. Prices are in EUR. I woudl guess the weight at about 22 Kg, based on the one sitting in its box in my shop (that was pre-tariff!!).

PM me your email and I'll send you the from in PDF

Thanks Scott... Yep they sent me that stupid form... Question is... What the hell is the difference from the invoice that walloth provides... Not a damn thing.

Freaking crooks probably looking for more money.

I think the difference is that that form gets tied to your SSN so they have someone to come after for the tariff. Of course sending the feds to collect. $150 tariff seems like a poor business model

Should clarify Scott for those keeping track of such things. I’m going to forget exact amounts here but is was kind of 68 in duty and the rest was UPS ridiculous fees… 15 for this 40 for that… the absurd more than 3 line description charge. The last one just burns my ass every time.

I sent the stupid form over. We shall see if it moves now.

Ok, haven’t gotten this one before. Essentially “too many small items that are rubber and we can’t tariff you for?”
This was for some window chrome, some rubber parts that are a bit worn, some for backup, etc. Nothing heavy or overly expensive.

Wow… that’s probably the worse “3 liner” I’ve seen.

Yes, UPS is pretty much universally hated now. If there’s an option I will choose anything over them.

It's a bit of a sneaky workaround, since previously I would contest the PayPal charge by paying UPS their fee and calculating what the correct tariff should have been and then contesting the difference. This isn't a charge that I can contest since it falls under their "fees", none of which are of course available online for evaluation. I'm going to message W&N and let them know about this one since this is starting to seem predatory on UPS's part.

So I just checked UPS website for the charge amount. Interesting that their own information page says that the fee applies to any item past the first 5 whereas my charge was for anything past the first 3. Regardless, the charge is $3 per line. This was the killer for me - I had multiple small parts that are each individually fairly cheap, yet you could order 20 $5 parts for $100 and then get hit with an additional $51 in UPS fees just for having those extra 17 items above the first 3. Obvious answer would be to just have multiple shipments except for W&N's $49 shipping. I guess I will have to reserve this for large items or expensive items only that are hard to source locally.

OK, keep coming back to edit this as I get more info. In closer evaluation, that "per line" is actually per line of text on the invoice, NOT per item. Meaning that when W&N chooses to helpfully list out the info to make UPS' job easier (HTS and country of origin), anything past the first item with its three lines is adding $12 onto your bill. For example the list below
would get the first item with its three lines in for no extra fee, but the next 2 items have tacked $18 in fees on.
I wrote a letter detailing this to W&N but I'm just one voice. But this seems crazy.

It all comes down to consumer protection and their is none. As an MD, I love watching all those drug commercials with totally misleading statements such as "clinically proven" which just means it works and we have no idea why or "visibly improved" which does not necc mean improved. Don't get me started on what the banks pay in interest for checking or a savings account while charging 20% interest on their credit cards. I just got my homeowners insurance dumped for a poorly conditioned roof based on a drone image...it's a new architectual shingle roof with documentation sent to them......basically the insurance companies lost money last year on Homeowner's Insurance so they are dumping people or raising rates......so they lost money......one data point on the graph of billions of dollars overall in profit. Sorry for getting on a soapbox.........

it seems to me, if we are doing all the work for UPS, there shouldn't be any UPS fees ... but hey, i'm just OVER ups and don't ever care if i darken their door or not ... and if i do, it will be with pirateship. thanks guys for turning me on to them.

Well, I at least got a very nice quick response from W&N
Hello,

Thank you for your email.
We fully understand your frustration.

We are in daily contact with UPS to resolve the issues.

Unfortunately, switching parcel services is not that simple, as we are bound by contracts.

I have attached a form for you.
You can fill it out and submit it to the following address.

[email protected]

And of course the simple answer is "don't order from W&N". I do try to support some of the other smaller independents but in the end W&N often just has the part. The real frustration is that my issue isn't with W&N, it's with their choice of shipper. I understand contractual obligations (like Bavbob above I'm an MD and my choices of surgical supplies are often decided by someone in contracting who has no clinical experience so I am just forced to use an inferior product because it's cheaper), but in this case I plan to write back and suggest that they get their legal department to review that contract. I would argue that UPS behavior is anti-consumer and will drive us to take our business elsewhere, which would suggest that they are acting in bad faith as the other half of that contractual agreement.

The best part about the UPS dispute form that W&N sent me? It asks for all the standard information/background, etc and then the reason for the dispute - wrong charge, wrong country of origin, etc. The type of dispute here would fall under "other".
The form then includes this language:

If the dispute is determined to be due to customer error, the following fees will apply:
Dispute TypeFee Amount
Post Summary Correction (PSC)
(A correction to the entry summary before Customs finalizes it.)
$95
Protest
(A formal request to review Customs’ decision after liquidation.)
$120
520D Claim
(A claim for duty refund due to free trade agreement or similar reason.)
$120
Steel & Aluminum Dispute$120
Supplemental Duty Bill$120

So basically if the company that charged me the ridiculous fee doesn't like that I complained about the fee, they can decide against me and charge me more than the disputed fee for their trouble.
