Does anyone have a source for the later model thermostat housing. Everyone seems to be out. Thanks

Hmm interesting - I just ordered one from AutoHaus two weeks ago which I returned when I realized I had already ordered the part previously. This is part number 11531710959. I sent it back to them last week so I’d imagine they will have it back in stock (by at least 1) shortly - website says they expect stock soon. Otherwise eBay. Or message Ireland engineering and see if they plan to restock their thermostat kit with housing cover and thermostat.

As you all know I'm new to this. Someone here posted under the cooling system upgrade that everyone should be using the latest thermostat housing possible. Is this the right housing for my M30B30 engine?

Thanks

David

David, the new housing will fit on the m30b30 engine as it fits on all m30 engines. the newer type thermostat ONLY fits in this type of housing ... what i don't know is whether or not you can use the older type of cap / lower hose receiver with the new type of housing. not sure that you can.

the cooling system upgrades depend most on the fan type, the fan clutch, etc. @sfdon has defined gen 3 and gen 4 cooling upgrades. if you are concerned about looking correct, gen 3 looks more correct as it uses a fan and a fan shroud. gen 4 uses a fan with a shroud ring around the fan. these two variants use different clutches - gen 4 uses a 3 bolt fan and gen 3 uses a 4 bolt fan. both of these variants use a different water pump than the m30b30.

Scott - David purchased the gen 3 fan/clutch from me that I had gotten from you, so I assume that's what he will be using. This would be the fan and shroud. That fan has the clutch attached to it already, but yes, he will need the newer water pump. Regarding newer housing vs older housing, it seems that many of us (me included) have gone to newer housing. It uses newer shorter thermostat - is there some specific advantage to the newer housing over old?

My understanding as well, and I used one of the additional 3 ports to add a water temperature gauge. I had used another one of them as temp switch for my auxiliary fan, but Don told me that should be mounted on the radiator itself at the bottom rather than on the housing. I suspect that there are temp sensors that have two outputs possible, so maybe that’s an option if one doesn’t want to upgrade to the larger 4-ports housing. Any other advantages?

i have the newer radiator with the aux fan plug in it. i also have the newer t-stat housing because of megasquirt and additional temp gauge. the downside for David is that i don't believe there is a radiator available for A/T with the lower drain / sensor mount ... but perhaps a radiator shop can install one when he has the radiator worked on.
