so i was putting in grommets for my wires + tubing going to the washer pump and i noticed a split in the harness right after the heater. there is a green / violet and a brown wire there that only goes about 6" past the heater. the green / black + brown / black keep going to the washer pump as expected. the only thing i could guess was this was an old feed for the fuel injection ECU. i guess i will rip open this portion of the harness and remove it ... unless somebody might have a clue what it might be.

i think i figured it out - there is a hole in the firewall and a grommet on the wires - i think it went to the idle control valve

i think the choke wiring (green / white) ran alongside the oil pressure sender wiring. in looking at the 2800cs wiring distribution diagram, there wasn't anything else running in this area other than the wiper motor (36) and washer pump (28). you can see the separate branch going to 22 + 23 (chokes) and 24 (oil pressure sender). this wiring (that i was trying to identify) was only a 6" branch and it is solid green / solid brown ... which seems like added wiring. the wiring was inside the vinyl tubing that ran thru the air intake / windshield wiper area. in all of the harness work that i have done on my 2800cs, i have found this distribution diagram to be pretty accurate.

I'm iny barn now looking at my diagram 1969-70. The Only solid green wire in or near the engine bay is going to resistor for coil, it comes directly from fuse panel

now that makes more sense Chris ... hadn't thought about something like that. since i don't have that anymore, wire is removed and there is a grommet in its place

that wire runs around the front of the car ... since it was no longer used on my car with megasquirt, it has been removed ... no need to have an un-fused / hot wire running around the front of the car (recommendation from @sfdon ).

so this thread has helped me in 2 ways. as i uncovered the wires, i discovered this was a green / violet wire, not a solid green. the good news is that on the fusebox side i was trying to find where a 'cut' green / violet wire went. now i know and i will try to pull it through the grommet and hopefully i have a completely loose wire. this green / violet wire was one of the few wires i had left to identify. i did find that somebody (when the car was previously painted / when the engine was initially swapped) had reversed a black wire from the starter to the 4 pole connector (plug connector 2) and another 1 pole connector with a black wire. now i know that the big black wire from Don's megasquirt harness goes to the ignition switch (connects to starter). now i need to verify that the little black wire goes to pin 1 of the 9 pin gauge connector (to feed the tach signal)

one follow up question - i found a 1 pole connector with a black wire ... any guesses? going to try to trace it

Todd, the area of this single pole connector is under the steering column between the fusebox and the console.

I have that too.

I had it labeled to go to another black wire that is in with the wiring from the steering column itself. Honestly, I have no idea if that’s right and I don’t know what it does.

that would make sense as its the wire i am thinking it was - to the tach. but i'm going to trace it to be sure
