When I was at the body shop yesterday we decided that the headliner really needed to come out before they paint the car.

I have a replacement for the main part of the headliner, but I'll need to preserve the hard section up front.

How is that attached?

It seems like it is probably held in with clips, but I am reluctant to pry on it too hard for fear it might crack the harder inside material..

What is the best way to remove it without breaking it???

The rivet is quite small and may not be easy to see. Also if you have an electric sunroof like I do, the switch has a brass cage that I believe helps attach to a roof cross support.

Plus the screws that hold in the visors… both clips and ends as well as screws in the dome light.

If the outside is stripped you should be able to see the rivets… as mentioned… very small

Interesting, my dome light is over the driver's side left shoulder near my seat belt support. Chris, another trivia question perhaps already answered in some post here (likely by you!).
