Silly question but how do the wipers work 1975 Csi

I am installing the wiper base and motor, traced all my wiring but not familiar with the control. Lever up say 3 o’clock runs normal, push button in stops. Washer circuit works fine and cycles wipers. However the two lower positions moving the arm down do nothing, wash circuit pumps but no wiping.

I may have the black white and black yellow wires switched up, I had to rewire the motor power wires going inside as the wire insulation was gone. Swapping them I have intermittent wipe all the way down, normal speed next position but nothing in top position of stalk. Swap and only works in this position without intermittent.

I had documented this a while ago when changing the wiring on a pre-facelift model to the later stalk on the right side of the steering wheel:

this is the wiring on the stalk that works

the stalk has three positions:

-bottom: interval
-medium: normal speed
-top: high speed

and the wiper only activates when pushing the button
