A school bus that played a key role in the 1960s hippie movement has returned to San Francisco.
“Forever Grateful/Golden Gate Park” opens Saturday and will also feature the Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia ’s BMW, which remains in mint condition and has never been displayed publicly.

Cool. I recall Jerry driving an e32 7 series, did not know he owned a coupe. I’ll be in SF in two weeks. Will check it out.
i think that the vin is 2240534 ... which is only 1 number away from hugh hefner's coupe 533.
Stopped in San Francisco today on the way home from San Simeon and made it to the "Forever Greathful" exhibit. Jerry's car is a 73. Unfortunately I was not allowed to see the VIN. Beautiful condition. I'm sure it's been restored. It's got four license plate lights.

John, You didn’t try hard enough! Front valance is painted black and the chrome cover is missing from the driver’s seat hinge area.
True, I didn't try hard enough. They literally had a clip board on top of the dash blocking the steering column VIN plate.
Rear valence is painted black as well.
