Bilstein Shocks Discount till Oct. 18th

Let me go on record here- I hate Bilstein heavy duty shocks.

It seems the route everybody takes is Carl’s springs which are great and then they add the Billstein heavy duty shocks and a big sway bar and 16 inch wheels with tiny side walls then they go down the road getting beat to death. How much fun is that?

At the shop, we recommend the Spax shocks which are 28 way adjustable.

You decide whatever ride you want and you get it.

Sunday drive to Church past the police station you got it!

Kustenfahrt with Chris Macha 300 miles of twisties you got it!

It’s not a race car it’s a car meant for gentleman and ladies to drive on rallies and around town.

i like bilstein more than koni. i always found koni to be stiffer and harsher. having a daily driver with 30 series tires makes me a lover of 50 / 55 series or 60 series. i haven't driven on 70 series for over 35 years ... since my e3 (which had koni shocks). my 2002 had 50 series with bilstein sports and my e30 m3 had 55 with bilstein sports. the 15" wheels for the coupe have 60 and that seems like it will be perfect for me. i have Carl's springs with the bilsteins ... but if i don't go to coilovers, i would like to find progressive springs. big swaybars - check.

I like Bilstein heavy duty which are often mistaken for Bilstein sport or performance which I agree are very stiff. I haven’t seen the heavy duty advertised new recently, but I could use two rears if someone knows where they can be found new (as opposed to sport or performance).

Thanks Chris.

There clearly has been a Bilstein nomenclature shift. Bilstein Sport used to be only for lowered CS cars.

But it seems to me in years past under the old nomenclature there were no complaints the HDs were too stiff with stock or stiffer springs. I have owned my HDs from new with Carl's springs and don't see how anyone could complain. I think they were/are great. Carl recommended against Bilstein Sport with his springs then. My wheels are 16's with Michelin Exalto's. I have oversize roll bars front and rear (Suspension Techniques as I recall).

Given Don's judgement and lack of prior complaints about the old HDs (and complaints about Sports) I can't help but wonder if valving is stiffer on the new B6 Performance (for stock springs).

I did have one relatively recent conversation with a retailer and was told that only the B6 Performance was available in the rear at standard ride height and that they were not the same as the old HDs. (But the may have been mistaken or the B6 Performance rears may have changed valving with year of production.) Anyway I was advised to have my HDs rebuilt rather than go with B6 Performance in the rear.

Maybe someone knows?
