On a previous post about my disdain for Allen key oil plugs and the proximity of my differential upper oil fill plug to the muffler (I have upper and lower fill plugs on mine which SFDon said is because my diffy is from an E24), I looked for confirmation that I indeed have a LSD. With my car on a lift, when I rotate one rear wheel and the other moves in the same direction, proof that I have a LSD. Members were telling me where to look for the stamped numbers. I looked and looked but found nothing except other numbers on nearby components.
Last night I looked more carefully. Not where I was told they'd be, I found the numbers stamped way at the top of the diffy. I was hoping for a 3:45 final drive gear. To my disappointment, I found the numbers 11:33 which means I have a wimpy tall 3.00 final drive gearing. Yes, great for highway cruising but not so much for spirited acceleration. Oh, I do have the Getrag 5-speed, so together I can cruise at freeway speeds at low RPMs. Oh man I wish I saw the numbers 11:38!
