    Mystery lamp

Anyone have the part number for the ignition switch bulb/lamp? My wire has an angle connector and no lamp which leads me to beleive there's something different about that bulb. Didn't see it in the parts diagram under the usual suspects- steering, instruments, and electrical, so perhaps I just...

    Mystery lamp

apparently fell out of the dash onto the access panelwhen opening the hood. Very small bulb similar to a minature christmas tree lamp. Any identification would be helpful. Looks to me like part #8 in the diagram which unfortunately doesn't show a description any longer. Thought I'd ask before I...

    Odd Vibration

Try this: http://www.hurst-drivelines.com/files/Universal_Joint_Alignment_Proc_111606.pdf Since your dealing with a swap, measure the rear diff pinion angle and compare it to the trans after you check the rear mount. It could be you just need to shim things a bit. My guess is at the trans...

    Odd Vibration

There were three driveshafts. At least there were two center bearings; one being smaller and not so known any longer; early automatic IIRC. I know W&N has the part. So you might want to measure yours. Regardless, it should be a light press fit with no play. I suggest you start checking and...

    Zenith cold start valve

There are two methods of setting the flapper/ upper butterfly. The other way is to close it cold. Upon start up the flapper opens by the amount of the drill bit size. The BUT is that the linkage slack is removed which almost takes three hands. Pull up on the rod, push down on the small pivot/...

    Zenith cold start valve

That device only works at below 40 degrees and only for a short time. There is a valve/ cone of sorts at the end of the bi-metallic spring. Make sure it's centered and not off to one side. The way I check that device is that the cover gets hot. If not, there's a ceramic resistor inside that the...

Restoration of rear lights, plus upgrade options

See the similar thread on mystery tail light. To be authentic, perhaps it's necessary to "candy" color the red refelctor part. There was another article on using model paint from a hobby shop in small spray cans. That gent used it to "tint" his marker covers. Looked nice to me. Perhaps others...

    Runs Cold

Measure the resistance of the sender cold and then hot and compare to known resistor values. A quick check of the guage is to ground the sender wire to see if it pegs hot.

    Rear window switch wiring

My bad. I thought you meant defroster switch. ( I heard rear window and pulled the trigger and misfired.) The wiring on a window motor works if you have original motors. If by chance you have the E28 motor upgrade the switch wiring is a bit different as the switch has to change the...

    missing part

Typically, the 2800 cs automatic bracket is best suited which has a longer "arm" on the top bracket. But you're missing the bits that connect the parts.

    Cold start fuel issue?

Remove the two extra filters. Make sure you don't have a sediment / rust problem as three filters is unusual. Just one in the engine compartment. It might be helpful to know which FI version?

    Chain tensioner rail replacement

You used a standard thickness head gasket? Bolts not too tight/ Upper cover not bowed open on the water pump side? Wasn't leaking before? The manual says remove the radiator. I think they were working on a non a/c car. One last word of caution while you strap on those new skates on the E9...

    Chain tensioner rail replacement

Your engine death rattle just stopped. Feeling lucky again so soon? No don't. Make sure it's not a loose bolt on the cover. One of the ones that should have sealer. Think thin wrench.

mechanical fuel pump issue and question

Nose up means the float is not in the best of positions. Since you know it runs when you pour errr... dribble in gas, try this: if your carbs have the vent pour a bit of gas in there as it's a straight shot to the float which can hang up closed or open especially if it rubs the side of the bowl...

    oil pan removal: prior-to questions

What filter housing? Check the oil pressure relief valve in the oil filter head/ bracket. Make sure it's closed. Then, plug the un-needed hole if you used the early bottom bolt filter. There's a procedure for removing the pan in the manual. Best to jack it up first and support at the...
