Recommendation for Motive Products Brake Bleeder

I disagree that you shouldn't use the tank for brake fluid. That's what it's designed for. If I wanted to only push pressure, I'd use my old Gunison's EZ Bleed which gets its pressure through a valve screwed onto the left front tire. I've used the Gunison's and not stopped, disconnected, and...

    Grundy vs Hagerty

I've had great luck with Hagerty I have eight cars insured with Hagerty (the E9, the Bavaria, the 635CSi, two of the three tiis, the Z3 M Coupe, the E30 and the Lotus Europa). All of them are probably a bit underinsured. I pay freaking peanuts for the ones insured for about $6k, like $35/year...

Anyone Know the Fate of Charlie Richardson's Frua Coupe?

Way back when the CS Register was a paper pub edited by Charlie Richardson, Charlie bought a wrecked one-off Frua coupe. The back issues of the CS Register are posted here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1QYF5vIO2Q-MDgzZDllYWEtNzE1ZS00MjZmLTkzNjAtZDZlMDNiMWY3ZTRh One of Charlie's...

    I'm Petrolicious-Approved!

My book is listed as one of "7 Books we Fell In Love With This Month" on Petrolicious. They even show the photo of my 3.0CSi stripped to bare metal before it was repainted in 1988. http://www.petrolicious.com/7-books-we-fell-in-love-with-this-month

    Free Doors and ZF 4-Speed

One Driver's Side Manual Crank Door Left From a 2800CS, a little rust at the bottom, some bondo in the middle. This is the only one that was stored indoors, so the insides are in good condition. Show up with beer and it's yours. I'll hold it, but don't ask me to ship it.

    Free Doors and ZF 4-Speed

Doors and 4-speed for free / beer money! This past weekend I cleaned out the Siegel Ancestral Parts Burying Ground (under the porch at my mother's house in Brighton, which I moved out of in 1991). Much of what had been under there had turned unusable, but there were 3 E9 doors that ranged...

What is the best and worst color on an E9??? Opinions?

The best color is... ...the one you love. That having been said, the E9's size and lines make it look good in a large variety of colors. By that I mean... IMHO, the E24, a much larger car, is a bit much in red. That's a **** ton of red. But E9s look great in red. In terms of lines, the Z3 M...

"Why do people buy cars that are not the BMW 3.0cs?"

My Take From my book "Memoirs of a Hack Mechanic" by Bentley Publishers: "They say there’s no accounting for taste, but they’re wrong. The two-door BMW coupes built from 1968 through 1976 (the 2800CS and 3.0CS / CSi / CSL, body code “E9”) are among the most beautiful driving machines ever to...

    Car wont start, need advice.

Try These Three Things 1) Fully charge your battery. 2) Bypass your ignition switch as follows. Take a test wire with a female quick-disconnect terminal on one end and the other end bare. Remove the terminal 30 wire and connector from the starter solenoid that comes from the ignition switch...

The Desirability and Increasing Value of E9s From the "Das Coupe" chapter of my book: “They say there’s no accounting for taste, but they’re wrong. The two-door BMW coupes built from 1968 through 1976 (the 2800CS and 3.0CS / CSi / CSL, body code “E9”) are among the most beautiful driving...

    DIY - Heater Bypass Valve

Jay, thanks! Drew, I tried exactly what you have with the vacuum actuator to the valve, but found that that only allowed all-on or all-off positions of the valve. I found that, in the fall, I liked having the valve cracked slightly open. That's why I went with the electronically-controlled...

    A/C evaporator

Yes, I believe the evap assembly is the same Yes, I believe the a/c evap assembly is the same as in a 320i. The most important, difficult to find piece for the retrofit, though, is the so-called "intermediate piece" that takes the cold a/c air from the evap assembly and directs it out the...

    engine swap

Many Choices Many people try and get an M30 engine with Motronic injection and 5-speed pair out of a late ('88 or '89) E24 or E28, as I believe this motor has 208 HP (the earlier mid-80s M30 has, I believe, 182 HP), and transplant the motor, 5-speed, Motrotrics (intake manifold, fuel rail and...
