    Tell me about impact guns

That makes sense. I have a battery drill that I use infrequently, and so I never have a charged battery to hand when I need one! An impact driver would also be used rarely, so a battery driver would need a charger that can keep a battery in good shape and charged. I had not considered a mains...

    Tell me about impact guns

I need to replace a wheel bearing on my modern Nissan, and having looked on YouTube, I think having an impact gun will make the hub nut a much easier proposition. I've only ever used hand tools on my cars, so this is a new thing for me. Should I get an air gun, or a battery gun? I'm looking for...

    Gas expansion tank

Changing these hoses around the tank, pump and accumulator was the least pleasant part of renewing all of the rubber in the fuel system on my car; flat on back on cold garage floor, with fuel dripping around me, I can almost smell it still, nearly a year later [shudder!] Pretty sure the...

55mm tailpipe NOS exhaust tube +chrome end tip +bracket75 euro's -sold-

Sorry to side track, but what is the part no. of the correct 60mm diameter part Markos helped you source? Checking on realoem, 18111245339 is listed as the correct part for all the 3 litre cars, CS, CSi, CSL & CSiL, and the 2.5 and 2.8 cars have a different tail pipe part number (with a...

Trans oil for limited slip diff

The Castrol bottle has an extendable nozzle, which is slim enough to fit right inside the diff fill hole. So I just placed the nozzle in the hole, then pushed the bottle up between the half shaft and the suspension arm, and gave the bottle small squeezes. Not problematic at all. Each squeeze...

    Question: Rear Brake Refurbishment Parts

I saw a comment somewhere about packing the space behind the dust cover with brake grease, I assume the modern silicon based stuff. Not done this before, but it seems a good plan with no obvious downside? I guess brake grease could escape on to the pads if the dust seal fails....

Trans oil for limited slip diff

Done, as Jesus says it's not a big job. I sourced the Castrol syntrax 75w-140 from Opie. Dry fill for our diffs looks to be 1.5 litres (source E3 Haynes manual). I got about 1.2 litres in before it started running out the fill hole, which is less than I had anticipated. I torqued fill and drain...

WTB : passenger glove box spring

This part no. looks to be a spring in a 2002's clutch release arm. Not suggesting that Markos has the wrong part, more that another source of springs might be rusty old 2002s? ;) [is nothing sacred?]

WTB : passenger glove box spring

Ha, I'm missing one of those too, and never knew it until now. One more for the (endless) list

    Question: Rear Brake Refurbishment Parts

I rebuilt front and rear brakes on my early E24 (vey similar brake system to E9/3/12) about 10 years ago, and I found the parts (inc new pistons) on German eBay!! Not something I would recommend, but the parts all worked great

Oil leak from timing chain tensioner

Yes, Steve has it covered. A thin smear on the gasket. I tend to do all the surfaces, i.e. both sides of gasket and both metal surfaces. An exception to the thin smear is at the junction corners of the timing cover, where lower cover meets upper cover meets block meets head. A small dollop is...

Has Anyone Seen Or Heard Of These Books?

I have this one, came with my B12 It's in English, but clearly a fairly rough and ready translation. Data tables are all in the native German

Trans oil for limited slip diff

Ok, hypoid means that the input and output axes do not intersect, i.e. they are offset. In my diff (all our diffs?) the prop enters the diff below the axis of the half shafts, so I'm hypoid!

Trans oil for limited slip diff

Thanks Jesus, I have no idea if a factory LSD is hypoid or not. Not even sure what hypoid means!! But I'm sure I can find out, will post back on my research.

    Blowing exhaust

Ah ok, mine has a u-clamp join where the long straight meets the rear box. All the other joins are missing, clearly! Cheers for the info

    Blowing exhaust

Thanks, have dropped him a note. Not too far from me as it happens. He tells me he has welded the silencers together, seems a bit odd/ drastic!!

Trans oil for limited slip diff

Hi Jesus, yes for sure the oil will be drained and replaced. The question in my post was more aimed at confirming the best oil to use for a LSD :)

    WTB: RHD exhaust downpipe

Looking at exhaust options, I could use an exhaust downpipe (note LHD is different to RHD on this part, as the ex manifold is different). Please let me know if you have one spare, doesn't need to be minty fresh! Thanks :)

Trans oil for limited slip diff

Whilst I've got the car in the air, I should replace the diff oil as I've not replaced this in my ownership (3 years). I've read (on bigcoupe) that Castrol Syntrax limited slip 75W-140 is the stuff to use. I assume our earlier diffs are similar to the later E24 ones. Actually, come to think of...
