Steering Boxes. Who has had both? (Manual, Power)

Decades ago I had a '69 2500 (E3) with manual steering, in town it was... an exercise. The steering lightened up considerably when I replaced the front tires. I got a PS unit but never installed it, sold it with the car.

Which OE parts for E9/E3 worth to be purchased at BMW Dealership directly

I'd buy glass from a dealer so that if it arrived damaged, I can reject delivery at no loss.

    5 digit odometer

CSteve has it right. I've owned 30 bimmers and to me it's not the mileage, it's whether the sale price is adequately supported by the visual and tactile condition of the car. If something's broke, I accept it and/or I'll fix it, but live with it either way.

I've got Wood (veneer) let me see yours

All of which should be to say, you can do it yourself with in-house methods, plus patience and elbow grease. I re-made one of my door trims in koa many years ago and considered it not difficult. It isn't professionally glossy, and may not need to be, but with a bit of that grease, wet-dry...

Rear wheels lock and unlock when brake pedal is pressed

dang: Seems like hoses that are swollen would act like a one way valve and not allow the brakes to unlock when the pedal is initially depressed. Me: Yeah, the brake booster provides a LOT more pressure TO the calipers than does whatever makes the caliper piston retract. Ergo, brakes seize...

The outside door handle is stuck in the open position

I've had 'em out of my CS and several 2002s - after cleaning and a light spray of somekindagrease, it's amazing how smoothly they can work. There is a little spring in there that you have to remember to reinstall, or when you shut the door firmly, it may lock on it's own. They (can) move that...

    World of Upholstery carpet

If you've little to lose, run the carpet through a cleaning cycle. I use the clothes washer when my wife isn't looking, but with more effort you could run a carpet cleaner on it (done that too). Or you could have someone else clean it. I like the written attitude and excellent advice you got...

    Need to copy a key

I'm told that Mercedes of the era used the same keys (and vaguely remember seeing one once) so check with the classic Benz shops, they should know. Better than having to go cross country for a key you don't immediately require.

How much shorter should the drive shaft be ?

Not explicit about what your current trans is (4 speed is implied) but I used my original A/T shaft on the five-speed trans. Per Carl Nelson that's just fine, the additional 3/4 inch isn't madly necessary. YMMV.

    Trunk Won’t Unlock: Suggestions?

It has been since the 1995 CCA Breckenridge Oktoberfest, that I saw this problem solved in a non-intrusive way. Guy with a very nice Riviera coupe couldn't open his trunk. His gf/wife standing by didn't relieve the stress level. The Old Pro (not me) stuck the key in and rotated it back and...

    the rarest e9 ?

Without rust? That's be the 3 SS cars mentioned above, and even then, check 'em closely.

The battery trays are now available from Alvaro

"Modern" batteries (usually with the translucent white plastic case, but not always) aren't porous as the old black case (rubber?) batteries. As a kid, I lost a pair of jeans lugging a battery for my grandfather on my hip and dodging the dinosaurs that were common in the neighborhood. Jeans...

    Emergency flasher switch/blinkers not working

If your flasher switch button won't stay depressed (flashers on) then you need to open it up and straighten the little aluminum finger in it. This was well known back in the day, and IIRC applies to 2002s as well (where I learned about it). Hope this helps someone.

72 csl race car on BAT

"Goodyear Eagles slicks measuring 23.5×10.5 up front and 25.0×13.0 at the rear" large, what were the original spec tires, anyone?

    Good source for suspension parts.

Timing is everything, yes, but compression is good too.

    Late Brake Show (UK) 2800CS

That will be some spendy rust work but with assistance of this list, parts can be sourced. I had a 2800 CS, years ago, that was in rather worse shape. I sold it.

Baikal Blue 1975 CSi in Houston

That's a nice euro 3.0 CSi sold a a price that somewhat surprises me. It has the D-jet motor and bumpers with all the structural rigidity of a gigolo's mustache (that the US market got through 1973). '74 and '75 USA models got the larger stronger bumpers with a shock absorber in them...

    Good source for suspension parts.

There are a goodly number of shops that sell Billies, but I don't think you're going to get off easy with any of them. Then again, Billies have a lifetime warranty, so if you can handle installation yourself, you might feel somewhat protected if you buy used, given someone locally to rebuild...

Baikal Blue 1975 CSi in Houston

Pic? Curious to know, what feature(s) visibly determine a '75? I saw one once with the front struts literally bulging up through the hood. The owner (I was told) was an exotic dancer who paid for the bodywork, $20 at a time.

    Color Change

We had a '73 Bavaria with what appeared to be a gold flake in the Chamonix paint. It looked great IMHO but it got three separate parking lot dents requiring repainting. Only one of those jobs matched the color perfectly. Sadly (or perhaps not unexpectedly) the one guy retired several years...
