    Unknown hazard switch

My 1970 2800 CS has a 6-pin switch. I believe that the earlier cars used the 6-pin versions, while later cars had the 8-pin. Why the later cars needed the two extra terminals and when BMW switched over, are unknowns to me. Perhaps some California emissions thing. :D

New Member: Long time E9 fan

By "hazard/turn signal relay", I assume you mean the flasher. Did you buy a "mechanical" flasher, as was originally supplied, or an electronic one? Honestly, the electronic flashers solve a lot of turn signal problems on these cars. The mechanical flashers have to handle exactly the right...

    Looking for this rubber

I am having a hard time understanding what Kij is looking for. Are we talking about part #7 in the diagram below: which is W&N part # A51376740140? They current show that as unavailable. But maybe I'm not understanding what it is that Kij is looking for, because when I click on the site...

    fitting trunk lining

No doubt, that's why our overlords in Sacramento outlawed the stuff. They're always looking out for the welfare of us car enthusiasts!

    E9 front window regulator.

Right! E28 rear motors will substitute for e9 motors pretty easily (and are faster/more powerful, though not "window breaking" powerful). But I doubt the E28 rear regulators are similar to E9 front's; I suspect that Pflyer's mechanic just substituted motors and not regulators. Define...

Anyone tried an electric AC compressor yet?

Modern, Asian-made, rotary compressors are pretty efficient and easy to mount. Substituting one of those for the original, piston compressor would be a LOT simpler than installing an electric compressor (and new alternator, and new wiring, and ....). Plus, as others have written, a modern...

    Ebay: 1970 BMW 2800 CS E9 $45k

It's surprising that someone went to the trouble of doing a Weber DCOE conversion, yet left the rest of the engine compartment looking so rough. Yes, the battery installation is an embarrassment, but that's not all: - What's that box outboard of the battery, between the voltage regulator and...

    fitting trunk lining

How about trim adhesive? It isn't a "sticks on contact" type of adhesive, though you may not get as long as 5 minutes to play with the fitment. You wouldn't coat the whole backside of the trunk lining with this stuff; just apply a few lines at the edges and center.

    Pebble Beach concours 2024

Really? I'm shocked, shocked! Yes, I saw the car on Thursday morning at the start of the tour, and was struck (not literally) by the wheels. Basically disk wheels, reinforced at the outside by many, thin, wire spokes.

    Funky little 2002...

What does "Mid mounted 306" mean? I get that a "306" is some sort of a 306 cubic inch V8, but where is it mounted? In the 5th photo, the steering wheel seems to be some distance behind windshield, so I guess the firewall been cut out and the engine (and dash and seats) moved rearward. Yes...

    Need some collector advice

Without knowing its mechanical needs, it's hard to give you a precise valuation. I always say that the amount you get for a car is proportional to the amount of time and effort that you put in to the sale. At one extreme, just accepting that $4,900usd offer would be quick and easy, but would...

    Soft Market, you bet.

Well, OK. Physical gold is cheaper to store than vintage cars, and ETF's are cheaper (and safer, absent a nuclear melt-down) to store than physical gold. But back to cars: I have observed that many of the BaT auctions that I have followed for their entertainment value have ended with the...

    Soft Market, you bet.

Gold is a whole lot cheaper to store than vintage cars. Plus, its tires don't go flat, batteries don't go dead.

    Soft Market, you bet.

... because tomorrow's automotive enthusiasts will be more interested in 50+ year old cars? I wouldn't count on that. We need to consider demographic, as well as economic factors. Interest in our old relics may have peaked. I suspect that the most recent 48 e9's listed on BaT provide too...

    Missing Relay ?

Yes, that's what many of us have done with that third notch. The headlight wiring harness is immediately below that bracket and it isn't hard to tap in to it to add a relay for the low beams.

    1966 BMW 2000CS Project

I liked the comment that read (in part): I spent 5 years rebuilding a rusty 66 2000c body https://bmw2000c.com/index.html. This looks hauntingly familiar. It was an exhausting endeavor and I had an experienced typ120/e9 guy to mentor me along the way. Now I know why shops charge $50k (and up)...

    Electrical Detective Work

My first step would be to verify that the right rear light assembly is well-grounded. Does the right turn signal also quit when the headlights are turned on?
