Huntington Beach Concours Sunday June 5th

I would attend but I will be on a week long off-road trip in northern Nevada. Not with my Coupe though.

    Polluting the gene pool

I wouldn't try submersing it in up to 6 ft of water without a snorkel on the engine and maybe on the driver too. Nice find.

    Where does this screw belong?

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw it but I don't remember it having sheet metal threads. I'll have to take a look. I need to get in there and replace the clock anyway.

Nod to an Old Car and an Owner Years Ago.

That is a great reflection of something that was once great. You brought that car to life. You could put the name of great horse in the place of that car in much of that story and it would feel the same.

    Slow Clock???

There is an adjustment screw accessible from the back that can be used to set the clock to the right speed. This requires removal of the clock. The unfortunate thing is it usually slows down again after a few years. I have two clocks and when one quits, I have the other one set and ready to...

    Car flipper from Beverly Hills

That makes my coupe look like a jewel and I would not even consider asking that much if I wanted to sell.

Free BMW tools with beautiful patina, ok maybe it's rust

The package arrived today. Sorry, I am going to have to ruin that nice patina and make them look nicer. I am sure Jay Leno would object. Thanks.

    Any Runners on this Board?

I ran some when I was much younger in the 1980s. I started hearing about people getting shin splints and other problems so I stopped running. I still did a lot of walking and biking. A few years ago I also started mountain bike riding in addition to road biking. The mountain biking is more...

    Hardest question ever

When electronics are overheating you smell something burning or degrading. That is a type of evaporation but is done as the molecules are breaking down. It is usually some kind of plastic material. It can even be coating that is burning or degrading.

    Eliminating the fan coupling-any issues?

When I bought my 2800 CS in 1980, it had the fan bolted directly to the water pump with longer bolts. I have continued to run it that way with no problems. It does whir a little at high rpm but that is not of great concern to me. I was having a slight overheating problem around 2009. It...

    Rear view mirror repair

Maybe my mirror is different but I had the glass in my 70 2800 CS re-mirrored many years ago. I don't recall exactly what I did but I think I just flexed the plastic housing and slipped the glass out. Putting it back in was similar. Maybe sometimes not knowing what you can't do works out OK.

    What Stickers Adorn Your E9?

I was gong to say nada because I don't care for stickers. When I saw Stevehose's post, I remembered I still have a BMWACA sticker at top, center windshield.

can you help identifying this air filter ?

You are right. My 70 Coupe has no charcoal canister. The fuel tank evaporation line goes directly from the reservoir in the trunk to the air filter housing fitting. I got into an argument with a smog inspector about that charcoal canister before my car became exempt from emissions testing...

What's the deal w/the rear red turn lenses?

According to my VIN, my 70 Coupe should be the 65th imported and it has the red turn signals.

to keep the hood open - chrome oil cap?

I think friction does become a part of the mechanism that holds the hood up as it ages. I don't know if that is its intended design. I am sure the intended design is for the spring action to hold the mechanism in place to hold the hood up, at least when it is new. Proper adjustment of the...

    Engine Oil

I have run standard Valvoline 20W-50 synthetic oil in my 2800CS since I rebuilt the engine over 30 years ago. I have not encountered any wear problems. I may have initially used Duckhams 15W-50 oil because Crevier BMW was recommending it at that time. It became difficult to find so I switched...

to keep the hood open - chrome oil cap?

A new torsion bar is strong and the hood will not fall from a puff of wind. I am sure there is a point where wind would be strong enough to knock it down but it would have enough velocity that you would certainly know the wind could be a problem. I did the same thing of lubricating the...
