    Zenith Help

Fast idle is controlled by an arc-shaped bit in the choke housing that has steps in it. The fast idle screw sits on the steps, sets how much the choke plates stay open. The fast idle screw is only accessible through a port in the choke housing. Getting it all right is enough to make you want...

What type brake fluid is recommended

Yeah, I've heard that early FJs had water issues and needed wheel cylinder rebuilds relatively often - a cousin had one. Aeration in your race car - seems odd. Aeration should only happen if there was air in the system to be mixed with, and the only free surface (air/fluid interface) would...

What type brake fluid is recommended

Castrol DOT 4 GT LMA, sold in pint and quart plastic cone top containers, is pretty much the standard. there are others, of course, but DOT 4 is the stuff, not DOT 3, NOT silicone unless you completely clean out the system- not for simply bleeding.

Best tools to seperate steering joints

Pickle fork and BFH, or two hammers on opposing sides when the joint is exposed. Old joints seem to have a certain (HIGH) minimum level of force required, below which one can hammer away all day with zero progress. I grease the tapered stud prior to reassembly, on the repeatedly proven...

Moisture barrier in doors, yes or no?

If you replace crumbling "masonite" or cardboard or whatever-it-is door panels with something insensitive to moisture....

Threaded Port on Side on Motor??

Merely punching is only part of the chore. All the interior coolant passages are probably similarly gunked up. If your engine doesn't run hot, great. There are coolant flush products sold at your FLAP. Usually you pour in a pint of the stuff, run several weeks, then drain, rinse thoroughly...

    Power Steering Box Versions

My first "large" bimmer was a '69 2500a sedan... you WANT power steering. Steering effort did decrease a good deal when I got new front tires.

    Solved - bad engine noise!!

Exhaust bracket - that's great news (relatively), and of course opens the old can labeled "while I'm in there"... Can we throw you a (rhetorical) rope to keep you from sliding into the abyss?

Set of Alpina rims and flush caps?

https://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/wto/d/kaneohe-bmw-alpina-wheels/7603744281.html Might be the real thing, price alone is certainly in the neighborhood. I think you can see "ALPINA" cast into the rim on the first and third pics at 5 oclock but I didn't zoom in to validate. They look a...

    2800 CS Windshield Installation

Whom does your local dealer use? Not that they'd be aware, much less familiar, with the nightmare that some CS windshields can be... Keep the body well supported once the ws comes out - per Carl Nelson a lot of the difficulty of installing the ws comes from body flex once it's removed.

    Vapor blasting service

Joe, will you have a minimum charge? Who pays shipping? How will you deal with other costs such as degreasing (if needful)?

Anyone here an original CS Register member?

IIRC, Art ran the show when I joined, though I forget the date (might have been in '85). I was about to sell my '72 tii, thinking I couldn't justify having both at the same time, and that I could "always" find another tii. I still have one of the decals Art had made, on the rear passenger...

Split in Vinyl Covering - Glove Comparment Door

Fritzie, I think the brittleness of the vinyl and strong tension caused by age caused the vinyl to shrink, and crack. The amount of force needed to stretch the vinyl and hold it in place while the adhesive sets, not to mention the small bond area between the adhesive and vinyl, likely rule out...

E9 right side passenger side view mirror needed

I have a pair somewhere, think I saw them a few days ago, and will PM if I find one or both. They're not pristine, could use a polish, and shipping though it must be paid, will not add to their value, only their cost. However, post if you solve your missing-mirror problem before I do.

Once again E9 to be crossed out from the list?

Only somewhat off topic, ran into an old pal from high school last night, who has been fairly successful in insurance. He revealed, to my surprise, that there is another CS in Honolulu, owned by a moderately famous artist, whose daughter I was slightly acquainted with, decades ago. I havent'...

    Pulsing brakes

Drew: if what "We all know" were true, there would be no problem. But then we would all be wrong. It might have been Performance Brakes who (a fairly long while ago) posted a link to what seemed to me a very authoritative article addressing what actually happens when pads clamp rotors. The...

    Various problems instrument panel e9

Yes, the 1/10 mile or km gear slips on the axle; it needs instead to be secured to the axle on which it rides. This has been discussed a fair number of times; I've done it with 2002 and 3.0CS instruments, they are largely the same. Briefly: first you have to take the instrument from the...

Metric Mechanics Rally engine vs Numbers matching rebuild

Have a look here: https://metricmechanic.com/engines/ You're welcome But note the very recent post which I quote here "For those of you who know Jim Rowe I thought I would give an update. Last week he had open heart surgery and is now recovering at home. Give him a ring or send him a text if...

My friend parked his coupe in San Francisco….. ouch.

I learned long ago the First Rule of Parking in Suspicious Places: Never carry more than you can afford to lose. For me that meant driver's license only (no wallet) and no credit cards (learned that the hard way).
