3.0CSi Auction

It says color is Inca, but is at most Inka.

Looks nice, it is a Euro, whose clock may not work, was repainted in Santa Barbara perhaps, and has been in California since it came from Europe.

My wild guesses.

A quick VIN nr. check showed that the car originally sold on ebay as a '72 CS a couple of years ago with a starting bid of 6k:

I actually contacted one of the car specialists of the auction and asked him about the mismatch in information. He told me he would contact the current owner but all that he could tell me afterwards was that the car apparently is an Inca Orange car.

Well...

I say it is a fantastic restoration of the same car.

Both are Euros, dual mirror, black grill, sunroof, factory AC, manual, speakers in rear, left rear antenna (I think).

Chances are 1 in a thousand it is a different car... place your bets.

It is the same car since the VIN 2262727 confirms it. But, I think the color was changed, and I swear it now looks more like Colorado. The one in the registry doesn't even look like Inka.

Hi,

There is an auction in Burbank from August 1-3, and there is a CSi for sale too. It looks very nice, has anyone seen this car before? It says it is Inka, but sure looks like Colorado, just like my old car.

Very pretty car - regardless of its pedigree or modifications.

Trivial wheel questions.

Are these the 20-spoke Alpina or Alpina-style aftermarket versions?
When did they first become available? Before or the same time as the standard BMW issue - approximately '75? (Realoem depicts a similar style wheel and implies it was available for the 2.8 series, which does not go along with my feeble memory.)
I recall virtually all of the rims of that period were 14". Were any 15"?

I have some 20 spoke 6J14ET22 BMW rims that don't appear on realoem.

I looked at your thread and agree with those who opined that the subject wheel was stock bmw alloy found on many post '75 models, including E12 and E24.

They look very similar, but the primary cosmetic difference between the Alpina and the wheel you pictured is the smoother lines of the Alpina. Your wheel had additional detail on each spoke that is lacking on the Alpina. Your wheel also has a pronounced ring encircling the lug nuts. No raised ring on the Alpina versions.

Vin plate

does it matter that the data plate looks brand new (e.g. a restamped new plate)?
Otherwise it does look very nice. Maybe approaching HBChris's car? Doubt the undercarriage is as nice.

These 6X14" Alpina style wheels were introduced in the mid 1970s for the late E9, E3, and the early E24 cars. Notice the relatively shallow lips on them. Genuine 7X14" CSL Alpina wheels have much deeper lips.

These "ribbed" and squared off 20 spoke wheels while similar to the earlier multi spoke rims, have a slightly different profile. They were used for the 5/6/7 series cars of the late 1970's (78-80 perhaps?).

Appears to be the 16" 20 spoke Alpinas.

18" capped Alpinas.

To be fair, the text says "restored" and "repainted." Was it over-restored in the sense that the hood and fender grilles "might" have been originally chrome? I knew of at least one original delivery like that.

Yes, there are plenty of examples for both. ;-)

Auction

Merdad-
Welcome back!
Have been trying to find the auction results as there was a vintage Buick I was interested in and a very nice albeit Sahara Beige '73 2002 whose bids I wanted to track. Would you have a link to the auction results?
Peter

Auction

The 1973 2002 sold for $25,500. All original. Nice car. I met the owner. Nice guy. The 3.0csi had fresh paint, new leather, air was cold, ran fine. Car was red at one time. Rust trying to come back under the hood.

Hi Peter,
Good tohear from you too. The results are not posted yet. I did follow some of the auction on live feed, I only saw a including the CSi and Alpina 2002 Touring that sold around $35k. I am gussing the results will be posted sometime this week on their site.

Sorry, but I just don't see a nice car here. The upper dash was covered in something, but looks awful, the wheels are not Alpina and likely came off an early 80s e12. Correct 14" Alpina wheels only have five holes in the center for the lug nuts. Also, you can still buy them new from BMW, but IIRC they have ten holes in them. The strut towers look like someone slapped some bondo on them and never picked up a piece of sandpaper, bolt missing on the driver's side strut, the bumperettes are gone, but the holes are still there, wrong coolant tank, looks like someone painted the air box...clips and all!!!!, no intake hose. At least when they painted the car, they covered up the DOT trailer lights. No telling what lurks underneath. For $60,500 I hope that included buyer's premium.

Oh, Ron, that gives me a license to add other details:

- no black tape behind side grills
- washer fluid tank is empty
- clock does not work
- no storage tray in trunk
- missing steering wheel center button
- missing slider knob on heater

but still a great survival story from its red car state to now.
