there is a malaga 3.0cs in the photo gallery that has 16" bbs wheels from an early 90's 7 series. my knowledge of these wheels states they are 16"x8" w/ offset of et23. what does it take to run these wheels on the front of our cars? anybody know who's car this is? it is after "chuckscoupe" ... which looks like an agave cs.

am i missing something ... or are these wheels the same as the e30 m3 (sport evo) 16" x 7.5" wheels w/ the 7 series cap?

i think these wheels look good on the car ... perhaps not as good as the bbs RS ... but a lot less $$$

Wheels

The car in the gallery (listed as CS, just before ChucksAgave) appears to have 16' alpina wheels. The same as the 14' stock wheels on the mid-seventies cars, only in a 16 inch version. A lot of e9's run these wheels. The offset is probably closer to et11, but they probably also made a selection of offset for a variety of cars.

At least, I think that is the car you are talking about. It is Malaga.

the car that i'm talking about is listed as "before accident after new paint job" in the 3.0cs photo archive

i just realized that the photo gallery is different whether you enter it from the forums or from the photo gallery button at the top of the home page.

sorry for the confusion.

Tire dimensions should matter more.

Hi, RP.

I can't speak from experience, but it seems like the issue where tires would rub on the strut tower would be relate to offset and tire section width more than rim width. Assuming you could still put the optimal 205/55/16 tires on rims of 16x7.5, they shouldn't intrude on the suspension any worse, in theory. Can anyone who's had a couple long enough to replace tires confirm?

BTW, are you and I looking at the same set of Fox3 Evo rims on ebay right now? :-D

no, i'm not watching the Fox wheels. they look pretty nice, but i'm kind of in the BBS RS camp / or that style in a 1 piece ... and yes i know how hard they are to clean as i had that style of wheel on my e30 M3 ... and they are a PITA. i guess i should just shoot myself now for thinking about it, but its one of the right period looks.

so who owns the malaga car that was wrecked after painting? (that i referred to) i would like to hear what wheels those really are.

I recently picked up some 16” by 7” rims with a 20mm back spacing. They have 225 / 50 / 16 snow tires on them which do clear my front struts but only by about 1/8”. I have no idea if these wider tires will rub the fender lips, my car is sitting on jack stands with the suspension hanging down right now. There is only 2 hundredths of an inch difference in the diameter of 205 / 55 / 16 tires and 225 / 50 / 16 tires so the possibility of running staggered tire sizes on the same 16” rims exists if the 225 / 50 / 16 tires clear everything in the back.

The fellow I bought the rims & tires from turned me on to a pretty good tire sizing site http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit . Go there and click on “tire size calculator” to compare tire diameters, widths and even figure out how much you speedometer will be off with different diameters. I was pretty impressed by the ease of use of the site and the information that’s available. Enjoy :) ~ John Buchtenkirch

16 in ofsets

Hey guys' I hope i am on the right track. I run 16 in BBS style staggards
from 80's M6.

Front wheels 7.5 x 16 with 8mm spacers & 205 55 R16 tires

Rear wheels 9.5 x 16 with 245 R45 16 tires.

I have not experienced any tire rub.
Having said that, different story without spacers.

i did some investigation on the 16" x 7.5" sport evo (e30 m3) wheels on the M3 SIG ... and those wheels have a 27mm offset. the e28 m5 wheel looks the same + same size, but has a 20mm offset. i would assume that the same wheel would have been available on the e24 ... especially the M6.

not sure what to think about 9.5" rears ... gotta be close to touching something.
