In case you wondered what 17'' Alpina's look like on an E9 here are a couple of pics and some info on the set up.
Fronts are 8'' rims with Dunlop 205 ZR17 50 and rears are 8.5'' Dunlop 235 ZR17 45.
Haven't got offsets to hand but can source if someone wants to know.
The shocks are Bilstein Sports and springs are 25% uprated and 30mm lowered .
A few tuning problems to get the clearances correct. Front hubs have 8mm spacers - the Dunlops have a ridge (inner and outer) that protrudes to protect rims from curb rash - handy but takes up clearance.
Front guards were rolled at the top, also rolled the rear guards as a preventative measure - not sure if rear was required but better safe than sorry.
Rear shocks also had extra spacers put in just to lift the height a little - haven't got the exact measure at hand.
Little bit of mucking around to get the original BMW wheel caps to fit on the rims as the caps where a fraction small in diameter and would slip through - fabricated a slightly larger nylon ring to fit over cap and take up the gap - virtually invisible.
Ride is vastly better than previous 14'' as you would expect - steering is very positive, ride is firm but not harsh - have not had the chance to really give it a country road work out yet - next week.
A few minor rattles now due to the tightened ride but that was expected - will address eventually....
Hope this is of help to others considering 17's
'Apologies' to the purists for this sacrilegeous act  but I reckon the car has the lines to carry these rims without looking too extreme.
