as i don't want to go of topic in rsporsche steering wheel thread , i started this one...

it seems some do not like my Schnitzer rims . :p:D

But what options are there ? i need 8.5 x 17 ET13 and ofcourse the exact diameter centering , no fiddling with adaptors !
17" to clear the Wilwood calipers
8.5 as i want 245 tires
Don't mind the 17" ... they are indeed big for a E9.

I have 2 sets now , the grey ones with rain Michelin Alpine , the black ones with dry Kumho semi slicks.
I can buy those rims around 500 euro/set , so i don't have to worry if i may damage them in rally.

I'm open to suggestions :)

Hi Barry,

If I may say so, you are doing just fine.
For your rally cars, it’s function over form. That 17’s are big, has been discussed over the years and lots of folks have that size on their street coupes today.
In your case, where damage to the rims is very possible, the price and figment/ clearances make the choices limited.

My only suggestion might be to paint the silver rims a dark color. Black!

If I recall, we haven’t had a rally cs in our midst for a very long time, if at all. I think it’s absolutely amazing that you are rallying a car that most of us won’t even take out if ts drizzling, let alone off road.
Keep on rallying and allow us some good info/ pics/videos and everything concerning the E9 in action.
And like you correctly pointed out, luckily we all have differs tastes, or else............

Have a great Sunday

Barry, I like your car and the black Schnitzers look great! Perfect to that rally look with extra headlights and stickers. But keep the outer chrome ring on the wheels as you have, they make all the difference!

8.5" wide front wheels will be VERY tough to fit. Even 8" is tough unless you have the EXACT offset and even then, you can only run 205mm tires.

I think he already has 8.5 width wheels and gave the exact offset that he wants/needs. The wheel he describes is just about three quarter inches closer to the strut, and three quarter inches closer to the fender than a factory 14x7 ET11. An ET20 17x8” wheel such as a commonly run RC090 is actually even closer to the strut (.8 inches total) than an 17x8.5” ET13 wheel. So, as long as Barry has the proper fender clearance, his 8.5” wheels (that he is already running) should be fine. Looking at the pictures of his car, his front fenders are a good 1” wider than factory. It looks like he has this covered.

I'm open to suggestions :)

Don’t let the peanut gallery throw you down a path of pointlessness. Function over form with a race car, and the schnitzer wheels look fine.

Since you asked, I would run BBS RS212’s. They are 5x120 17x8.5” ET13 bbs wheels that look just like the wheels that we all know and love. They are light, strong, and modular. I’m not sure how a spun lip
will hold up to rough terrain but at least you can replace just a lip if they are damaged. I would run gold centers.

I also think it's awesome that you rally your car, and I will add my preference for the black rims, they look great.

Didn't notice until now that those look like fender flares on his E9. That explains how he can get some wide rims/tires on the front.

Thanks for the suggestions so far ! Indeed , the fenders are "flared" to accept the 8.5" ET 13 rims with 245 tires.
Tires just clear the suspension .
I did look at the BBS at the time .... but i found them "fragile" look for a rallycar . :)
I also like the black / chrome lip ones more then the grey ....

Our Dutch rallydriver use those BBS ?

Another option would be BMW Style 21 wheels. I would run them without covers in dirt runs and with turbine covers on road courses. They actually do have a cooking effect also. You can get them in 17x8 and 17x9. Cast aluminum and forged. They are probably significantly lighter than the schnitzer wheels. I’ve seen quite a few stock e9’s running them also.

See “e34 M5 wheels” in the @BarryG post.

i tryed once those wheels .... they were on a M1 ... but looked to "expensive" to me for a rallycar ...
and the looks ? not for me .

This quote is so true and I love you are rallying an e9! Please keep us updated on your outings.
PS I like the blacked out look as well.

Do the front wheels turn on this? It doesn't seem possible from the photo, but I guess they must.

It has adjustable air ride suspension. It’s sitting on the oil pan in those photo because there’s no air in the bags at the moment. Once I get in the car and push a button to my desired ride height it will be at a normal height
