Don't ask me how he got them to fit, but I bet it took some serious customization and money. What's surprising is that this set doesn't look too big for the car IMHO. Some oversized wheels on coupes, like the one you have a link to, make the car look like it has wheels that are just too big for it proportionately. I would save the money on the bigger (and probably heavier) wheels and tires and just get 16" Alpinas which, with the right ride height, look absolutely perfect on the coupe.

Definitely changes the look of the coupe.

The E39 wheels even have a unique center bore as compared to the other BMWs. I like the Alpinas and have them on an E31, but not a fan of the Mparallel or E39 wheels on an E9. I personally agree with Walter's comments. Ride height can change the look of the E9 as much as the size of the wheels, but I applaud the creativity.

yes, but you can fix the bore with concentric rings. the 19" wheels on an e9 kinda remind me of a 'merican sedan with blinged out 22's ... and riding on rubber bands. i agree with several people ... 16's or maybe 17's with the right wheel. the problem is finding the tire size that really works can be very difficult.

on another note - this silver car has a few interesting features - no front turn signals, a blended air dam with no visible seams. but, it still has the rear side markers. oh well, just goes to show, we all have different opinions.

make your coupe be right for you + continue to enjoy it.

Isn't that Alvin's new ride he was working on? Never saw the finished product.....Anyone heard from him since Jabberjaw was sold other than a passing at a meet or two? Don? turning on any mystery motors with that new toy megasquirt?

If I remember correctly as I asked him since I thought 17's too, he said those rims are 16's with the correct/ desired barrels/ offset; even though they're normally larger.

Of course, I could be off base.... like finding magnesium racing alpinas.

Thank you guys, of course you dont want your coupe to look like a pimp my ride car but you can still find some with 18"s that look good.
I just bought my frist e9 (dream car) and I just love it but I wanna change some small details to make it look a bit more modern without destroying the beautiful lines so I think I'll go for the 17"s and experiment a bit with the ride height but it would still be nice to se how it looks with the bigger alpina ones.

Just a gut feeling, but I suspect the handling will be compromised by anything over 16 inch. Unsprung weight goes up a lot over a 15.

Really bastardizes the era of E-9 design--simply WRONG!!

Reminds me of some of the over-wheeled examples one sees in East Los Angeles.

i would agree with Murray on 18" wheels. i'm on the fence about 17" wheels. the style 32's i think look good w/ the body ... kinda like a muscular alpina. i'm just not sure the right offset exists w/o changing between the deep recess spokes and the flush spokes of the style 32. the problem with the picture is that the car has been lowered to a painful ride height-like springs w/o struts ... or a really stiff race height. i also think the BBS RS and the Alpina style look good in 17's on the car.

i have a set of 16" coupeking alpinas to go on the car once i get the other things sorted out.

I thought about larger wheels but some of the experts cautioned me to stay with 14" since the extra cushioning would help keep the body from torquing so much. Probably more important in New England where we have pot holes and other less than smooth roads to deal with....
