1965 bmw 1800

"Most parts on this car are compatible with the BMW 2002"

Not entirely true, early NKs have a much different front suspension, rear was always different, trim/interiors/etc is very different. The engine is the same but this is a 1.8L motor so do your research before considering.

So what is compatible? Sounds like "most e3s are compatible with e9s. And we know about that.

yea...EURO TURN SIGNALS....trying to lure an 02 guy....totally different and standard as this car was before fed mandated turn signals...US 1602's had flat turns in 1966...so not just a "EURO" thing.

1965 1800 pretty much has zero parts compatibility with a 2002.

Most parts on this car are compatible with the BMW 2002. In fact the front piece looks like a Roundie.

I think the seller meant that most parts are visually compatible; that is, they sort of look like 2002 parts.

And hey, the Neu Classe and 2002 do use the same types of oil, gas, and coolant.

Much as we're kidding about this, at $2,500 it might be a great deal.

I'm restoring one

Mine was built in March of 1965 according to BMW archives. I've been learning a lot about these early NK cars and one thing I've learned is that you can see the evolution of the 2002 in its very early stages. That said, I doubt there are many parts that interchange. This car would be a 6 volt electrical system, I believe. The flywheel and clutch should be the 6 bolt variety so similar to a very early 02, maybe. As Chris mentioned, the suspension is similar but not the same.

One interesting note is the fact that the early M10 heads did not have the provision for attaching the oil spray bar above the cam/rockers. Instead the cams were hollow and allowed for oiling that way. I'm still not sure how that worked and clearly not very well as BMW changed to the spray bar soon after '65.

One thing this car has that I would love to get ahold of is the original rubber bellows from the carb to the early air filter housing. NLA and nearly impossible to find, I'm told. Still not worth $2500 and a round trip to SAC to pick up :)

Beautiful and evolutionary. I was driven around Hamburg in one. It belonged to the married girl friend of a friend of mine. Made it even more interesting.
