1970 BMW 2800 CS
I bought this car on a whim while buying another BMW from the same owner. I originally planned to turn this car into a nice “driver” that I could commute to work 2 or 3 times a week. A new business venture coupled with my wife’s desire for a new house and to expand our family have forced me to re-evaluate my car collection and thin the herd.

Let me begin by saying that I DON’T HAVE ANY RECORDS FOR THE CAR. The previous owner is a certified BMW mechanic and has been for nearly 40 years. I have personally known him for twenty years and he has worked on all my Pcars and my family’s cars as well. He owned this car since 2005, and has a clear California title signed by the owner previous to him. For some reason, the gentlemen I purchased the car from never bothered to put the car in his name and simply stored the car at his shop. I have the California title in my possession, and I am in the process of having the car titled in my name. Title is not an issue, and will be transferred to the new owner with no issue.

EVALUATION EXTERIOR:
I would describe this car as a solid “5 footer”. There is a chip in the paint on the driver’s side rear quarter panel about the size of a dime. It has apparently been there for a while as surface rust is present underneath. The metal here is still solid. Aside from this area, all exterior panels are solid without rust. I have however noticed that the white paint is chipping on the door jamb area of the driver’s side door. The paint underneath is blue. I am assuming that the door was replaced at some point. The car is white everywhere else, and appears to be an originally white car. All of the panels line up and the white paint is in overall nice condition. The wheels are nice, but could use some restoration. The tires are shot (from sitting in storage). The windshield is cracked pretty bad. This will need to be replaced. All the chrome looks good. There is a missing piece in the grill (not the kidney) (looks like a rock hit it and took out a few vents) you really have to look closely to see this, but it is there.

EVALUATION INTERIOR:
Car has a sunroof with crank, but I have not tried to use it. Rear seats are in good condition with no rips, although they could use some elbow grease and conditioner. Front passenger seat is in similar condition to the rears, the driver seat has a seam rip on the bottom and could use a repair.
All of the trim appears to be present and accounted for. The varnish is peeling from the wood trim, however the wood itself is in very good condition. Personally, I would strip it and re-stain it. Dash has no cracks, and the steering wheel is complete with just enough patina. Rear deck is near perfect, and the headliner is in very good condition.
All gauges are present, however I am not sure of their operational status. Car shows 72,963 on the odo, and this appears to be consistent with the condition of the car.

EVALUATION MECHANICALS:
The brakes will need to be addressed. I *may* have this fixed prior to sale. They will need to be serviced or rebuilt due to sitting stationary for such a long time. The car does roll, and I was able to load it on a trailer without issue. I just would not drive the car without addressing the brakes! The fluid is at least 10 years old. System will need to be flushed and serviced for sure. Again, I *may* have time to address this prior to sale.
The dual carbs have both been professionally rebuilt, and I am having them installed.
The car is a 4spd and appears to have the original drive train. The clutch feels good, although I have not driven the car. The transmission feels good, although again, I have not driven the car. This evaluation is based solely on my inspection of these components.
The rebuilt carbs are being installed, and hopefully the car will be running in the next week.

RUST:
Everything is solid EXCEPT the driver’s floorboard. This is currently being repaired.

TOOLS & SPARE?
The tools are missing, however the jack and the spare are present.

Please feel free to contact me and ask any questions. I am a car guy to the bone and have been active in the Porsche and Corvette communities for many years. I have nothing to hide and believe in honesty. I can take pictures of anything you want to see. I can also arrange to have the car put on a lift if necessary. Having said that, PLEASE do not waste my time. I have a very young family and I am in the process of completing a move from New Orleans to Seattle. I have not moved this car from Louisiana yet and it is currently located at a close friend’s shop in Louisiana. If the car is sold to anyone between Louisiana and Seattle before the end of April 2015, I can bring the car to you for a small fee (I will be U-haul trekking from Louisiana to California, then up to Washington at the end of this month). If the car is not sold by the end of the month, it will be shipped to Seattle and can be viewed in Seattle beginning in May.

The pictures below were taken right after I pulled the car from storage and brought it to by friend’s shop for an evaluation.

I am asking $18,500/obo for the car (Please feel free to make a reasonable offer). Judging by what is out there, this seems pretty fair for a car with the floors repaired and only a few weekend projects from making a decent driver

Thanks.

Steve you have a PM.

I remember seeing your car around the Lakefront. I think I spoke to you about it a few years back. Beautiful car.

Think there's lots to like on this one...no affiliation, just an arm chair evaluation from the other side of the continent

Euro model (KPH Speedo, 73kms= 45Ks miles)
Straight, non rusty shell with complete trim
Nice driver interior after a good scrub
Rolls-up windows (fast ,reliable and light weight)
Tight bumpers
Nice rudder (Nardi?)
Hard to find now 2800cs badge present

Bet it has an LSD.....someone go poke it with a stick

I agree with Shannon on this one, but then we both like the less is more version(s) it seems. This would be a great drivers car if it's solid and white is another plus for a "sports purpose" treatement. The early, 2800 seats and the darker tan leather (pig skin?) are a great combo too. It needs everything, but everything is there.

Ah, but those seats are 3.0CS, they have the release lever on the side of the backrest.
Chris, if I'm not mistaken ... only the very early 2800cs had the low release lever. my 2800cs has the side lever and several others i have seen from 70 + 71 had the side lever

That could be, the parts books are hard to interpret. From 2270072 and 2280070 it says something about the seat side panel, it might be referring to this.

Do you also have the flat/round headrests? Later cars had the pointed ones.

Gaskets are in to re-mount the newly rebuilt carbs. I will be back to the car on Monday and will take extensive pictures as well as video of the car running (hopefully!).

I'm getting motivated to sell. Driver's floor board is being replaced before I get the car loaded up next week.

This would make a great driver pretty much out of the box. Open to offers. $16,500 obo.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately for me the car is not local so I can't be of much help to those interested in a PPI. If I travel to the car's location (central Louisiana) for work I'll post the offer to check it out for anyone.
