I've enjoyed keeping it in the family for a few more months, but I'll be moving in the new year (to a wet, sticky place where they drive on the other side of the road!), so listing with some urgency this time.

• In the family for past 18 years and counting
• 129,500 original miles
• Original Malaga red with Black leather interior
• Automatic
• COMPLETELY original, unmolested, un-restored car. If you want one similar to how it was sold by BMW in 1970 with no tasteless '80s or '90s modifications, this is it.
• Really a Southern California car, selling from Southern California, blue California plates, current California registration, with documentation in Southern California for at least the last 20 years
• In 2007/2008, $4,500+ in work done at specialist shops including:
• brakes and hoses,
• rebuilding original Zenith carburetors,
• complete tune-up including plugs, belts, and filters,
• refinished gas tank inside and out,
• new starter,
• new voltage regulator,
• related wiring,
• new battery,
• new tires,
• exhaust hanger
• Includes all receipts/documents since 1980's
• Car running well, no blue smoke
• Garaged and driven as sunny Sunday driver in Southern California for past 18 years
• Good headliner, no tears or sags
• Generally good dash with gauges and odometer always operating (dash cover can be included)
• Beautiful, shiny original wood steering wheel
• Original 1970 bumpers, not the later 70s abominations
• Good original door trim and carpets
• Original trunk tool kit included
• Custom sheep-skin seat covers for leather front and rear seats can be included
• Air vents blowing strong
• Radio working
• While all of these cars have some rust, this California example appears restricted to a few typical areas.
• Includes original owner's manual, 2 BMW technician notebooks, original price and options list, old magazine article
• But you don't need a magazine to tell you this is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever built, and this original deep color with black interior really sets off the chrome accents
• However, you do need the BMW CS Registry to tell you that only 403 e9s of this model, this early year were ever delivered to the US. How many do you think have been living in Southern California and are still driving in totally original condition?

• Electrical problems include horn, wipers, turn signals, headlights, driver's side power windows, clock
• Air conditioning belt not connected
• Exterior cosmetic issues include old paint, wavy rubber on rear bumper, right rear lens is cracked (but operating), various small chips, cracks, and dings befitting a 38 year old car
• Interior cosmetic issues include cracked and torn leather seats, wood trim cracked/split in a few places, dash shows crack lines in a couple inconspicuous areas (dash cover can be included)
• Rust issues have not been hidden, disguised, covered-up, or lied about (like most other e9 listings!) and include the typical: trunk spare tire area, front shock tower/inner front fender seam areas, rocker cover
• Broken antenna
• Small crack in original wood steering wheel
• Original rear drum brake(s) occasionally make one metallic "clink" as car stops, occasionally uneven brake feel

• Any questions? I look forward to them! Search craigslist los angeles for photos, reply here to request more, and/or arrange to stop by for a look and drive if you are in Southern California.
• Payment terms: Buyer agrees to pay balance due via cashier's check/money order/bank check/wire. All financial transactions and funds verification must be completed before delivery of the vehicle. Delivery/shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
• Car is sold as-is with no guarantees or warranties. All sales are final.

• $7,999 or BEST OFFER

Yes, and a bit of overspray on rear underbody (spare tire area) as well.

During the time the car has been in the family (1989), no respray has taken place. And the records I have from previous owner dating back to 1984 also show no mention of paint. So, I'm afraid I don''t know the story or the extent and I can only assume it was done between 1970 and 1984.

Just a guess here, but my father purchased the car from an owner in the Palm Springs, California area, and I have records/receipts from BMW of Palm Springs. The top surfaces of the car are much more faded than the sides, and the interior leather cracking and light sheepskin covers also hint at a "life in the desert sun." Maybe someone was trying to bring some shine back to prematurely fading paint?

There are 2 indications on the car that Malaga red was the original color though.

Thanks for your question and checking out the pics!
