1970 Bavaria ( Someone Local Please Buy This)

In 1971, I bought a new 'left over' 2800 (after the Bavaria was introduced) in this exact color - but full tan leather and lots of powered stuff inside. Excellent car in that era. Hope the buyer appreciates owning, caring for, and driving it.

Man E3 prices are so enticing! Why does the world keep telling me to buy a super clean E3? :D

Nice example.
Love the look of the earlier, silver-grille models.
Another candidate for restoring the chrome belt-line mouldings?

What happened to this car's belt line trim? Did the 1970 2500's not come with that trim?

The CL ad reads: " If we receive multiple full price offers we will ask for best and final." It will be interesting to see what this goes for - I wouldn't be surprised if they get multiple, full-price offers.

No, neither the 2500 nor 2800 came with belt line trim in the U.S. It first appeared here on the Bavaria in '71.

This is a gorgeous car; it looks much nicer than my Bavaria, which I got for the same price they're asking for this one. Wish I was in a position to consider it!

No one in the area to take a look? Car is in Evan territory so expect to see it back up for sale at twice the price soon.

I can go tomorrow at 10 or so, pm your cell number if you want me to make an offer for you in situ.

I knew the Euro spec cars had them from the get-go but didn't realize the pre-Bavaria US cars came without the trims.
This would explain why BMW issued the Service Information with instructions for installing these trims.

I stopped by to see and drive the car and there were three other geezers with appointments so I would say the interest level is about eight geezers per hour, which means sixteen geezers per day. Assuming most of them want to see the car the first day and that half of them forget to put an offer I expect about ten offers to be submitted by Friday.

The car looks like a first owner car, one that had a good mechanic that did not let things fall apart, but no body shop to do the same for the body/paint/finish. The interior looks nice in the sense that it is original and nothing is torn but you feel you are driving in an old vinyl seat. It has a period Blaupunkt but I did not check if it works because they are lousy even when they do. Steering wheel and shifter are nice.

From the ride I suspect the suspension can use repairs, the engine had really bad dieseling to the point that drivers tried to turn it off and the engine kept running so they turned the key again and left it running. There is a grinding sound that maybe transmission or some other friction in the drivetrain.

In terms of body it seems solid, somehow the doors feel less tight than the coupe maybe because it is a 4 door. There is a rust area around the rear window/trunk but looks contained (see picture). The driver side doors are not smooth in texture/paint so there may have been some heroic work done to fix a dent. Surface rust on one floor (picture).
Steering components look good.

Brake warning light is always on (there is enough brake fluid), all tools are there they just fell off the tool while test driving. The hood does not stay up, the torsion bar looks different than the coupe, it may be a hack.

If I bought this car and wanted to sort it out I assume I would have to spend another 5k to be happy. Actually I am never happy.

Has anyone received a reply from the seller? I emailed them the first day. No answer... Most CL ads without a valid phone number are just waste of time. If this ad is for real they are still expecting higher number then their asking price.

So, anyone here end up with this one? I heard it received multiple offers at full asking and was going to go into a "highest and final" round on Friday night.

I did not end up submitting an offer as the person from the estate sale emailed me saying there were multiple offers above asking and I just didn't see it being a great deal anymore. I also do wonder what it sold for, I will email her now and see if I get a response.

Ahh... but what if all the other high bidders felt the same way. Submit a bid for $4501.00 and see what happens.

;)

Do ask her how many offers they received.
I would hate not knowing that I was right, again.
