Listed in BMW CCA ads, not yet in Roundel. No affiliation, but in the interest of full disclosure the owner is a former neighbor of mine (from >20 yrs ago). I do not know the details except to say that he has taken very good care of the car and has owned it for some time. He read my article in the Roundel on the e86 M Coupes and bought one and so is selling his e9 (I did not suggest this). It seems if folks like e9s they like e86s at least in Baltimore (Bimmerboy, this owner, and I, all have e86s).

I looked at it through an inspection company, the owner is a great guy

Anyone can access the BMW CCA classifieds without logging in. Look under classics. There are not many pictures - and none of the ones we all want to see (i.e. engine, undercarriage). Pearson probably knows much more if he had it looked at. I can just vouch for the owner as a very nice, honest person who had the desire and means to keep his e9 in good condition and has owned the car for a while. When we talked recently (the first time in about 20 years) about our mutual interest in e86 M coupes he just said that he was not driving the e9 much after getting the M coupe (I think he only has one garage space, presently for the e9). I don't drive my e9 that much either, but I wouldn't sell it.

Normally I would offer to look at it for folks, but since I know him, this would be a COI sort of.

Yes, it is sold. The owner emailed me today (after getting back in touch after 20 years, we are planning a drive in our M coupes) since I was trying to talk him out of selling it. He sold it to the first person who came to look at it for the asking price of $18K (this is for reference). The new owner came to examine it for several hours; he was an out of state engineer who has owned Ferraris in the past (365, Dino) and had been looking all over the country for an e9. Interestingly the previous owner sadly alluded to club members who get others to inspect e9s remotely (perhaps you p), commenting that unless the inspector knows e9s they may not know the quirks. He wasn't at all angry or upset, but actually sad that you missed out; he was truly sad to see his old friend go.

I do not know who is the best person to inspect an e9. Members on this board are certainly the most knowledgeable and can help someone avoid the bondo bombers and repainted rattle canned rust bombs, but sometimes are a bit harsh on nice, but not perfect cars. I think I would ask the hack mechanic (not that he volunteered); he seems to have the best perspective.

Anyway, I hope the new owner joins the board; he sounds like an interesting fellow.
