I really don’t need another coupe. I really didn’t want another coupe. And, I REALLY can’t afford another coupe. But, Barney made me buy it. You see, the story goes that there was this beautiful Granada coupe on eBay, sans engine/ transmission/windshields, but with a fresh, very good quality paint job on a virtually rust-free CA car and lots of new parts ready to install. It had languished on eBay at less than 15K for several days when I asked Barney to talk me off the ledge of buying it. Barney checked out the dozens of additional pics I sent him from the owner and, with his vintage-bimmer-veteran-restoration eyes trained over the course of reviving a half dozen 2002tiis and one 2800 CS, immediately told me that I HAD to buy it at that price because the paint job alone would cost close to that. The thing is, I had just sold a ’76 2002 for about that amount a week before and I managed to rationalize that this might be a good way to leverage that cash. And, so, I did. Final bid was 17.1K.

Barney was right about the paint job too as it is indeed beautiful. It is also the color of both my and Barney’s first 2002s back in the 70s/80s. Since this will definitely be the last vintage bimmer I buy (unless Barney convinces me otherwise!), it will be a nice bookend to my lifelong bimmer career!

And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank the folks on e9coupe who helped keep the price down by pointing out minor flaws of the 2800 in the forum thread. Probably deterred some forum visitors from bidding on the car and saved me thousands!

Here’s some pics.

Ya, that's a money maker for sure. Awesome it has no front side markers (like mine).

Before putting in the engine, I'd clean up as much overspray as possible. Maybe get rid of that AC muffler since not needed if you go w/a good AC Compressor like a Sanden.

How's underneath? The floors/rockers?

Looks good to me from the pics I see on ebay:
