"This 1971 BMW 2800CSA was purchased new by the seller’s mother in San Rafael, California. The seller grew up riding in the car until it was parked in the garage around 1985. It wasn’t until 2005 that he inherited the car and restored it, first the drivetrain and then an extensive body and interior restoration including rocker panel and front clip repair of the California rust. It is now in excellent driving shape, having covered 18k miles since the restoration. It is available with excellent documentation in San Rafael, California for $25k OBO. Contact us at [email protected] if you are interested.

The body looks very impressive in the photos, and the seller describes it as “mint.” He tells us that he restored the car to all its glory as he never planned to sell, but is now expecting his first child so the car is no longer practical. Documentation is included from the early service work at the BMW Autozentrum on 4th Street which no longer exists. The old-school stamps and hand-written notes shown below are in the service booklet.

Paramount with these cars is that rust is deal with. They all rust, even life-long California models like this one, and the seller tells us that he spent $35k for the restoration work on this car to get it right.

The interior is in excellent condition, with tan leather upholstery front and rear. The car has a wood steering wheel and brown carpets and presents very well.

The engine was upgraded to a factory rebuilt 3.0L unit with Weber carburetors and the the transmission is an automatic. The car runs very well according to the seller. Check out the additional photos and documentation included by the seller in the Flickr album slide-show below."
