1972 bmw 3.0 csa

This was a Euro look that was done prior to the car coming to North America. Either you like it or you don't. The car was origionally Polaris Silver.

Just me, but looks like the paint shop mixed up the work order and painted the BMW instead of the Rolls Royce. I think the lines of the car are ruined by the 2-tone but that's in the eye of the guy/girl with the $.

Peter, the origional owner, ran a BMW service depot in Europe. He brought two cars, a CSI and the CSA to Canada. He indicated the two tone was a very European approach. He had it done in Europe before he brought the cars over.

This is why I will never list my coupe for sale on this site. More often than not, members go negative when a car is listed here.

Personally, I like the two tone look on this one. It's different and the colors look great together. GLWS.

The owner is a friend of mine and I assure you he will take all comments in stride.
This is actually one of the nicer forums!

Vince, I think this is a great place to post :) sure there are allot of (what could be considered) negative comments but most people are fair in their assessment and are only pointing out things that they have come across that have caused problems just so potential buyers will go into their purchase with eyes wide open. There are allot of good comments as well. Granted, colors and wheels and interiors receive most of the aesthetic comments both good and bad and those things can be changed but I think I would rather have a very critical and cautious eye(s) looking over the structural aspects; as I build/rebuild a couple of cars I find it really helpful when someone stops me from going down the wrong road and I don't get offended and I don't think anyone means to offend and sometimes there is a bit of off-beat humor involved- something sorely lacking in our society nowadays (again-my opinion only). Just my 2 cents, did not mean to contradict anyone or negate someone's valid sense of artistic expression-

Peter

Au contraire, we seek out listings outside the forum and treat them the worst :).
The only way you can hide from us is to list you car as a Ford Pinto or a used refrigerator.

BTW, nice two tone car.

I've watched it happen multiple times here. A car gets listed and then is completely picked apart by the group, each trying to outdo each other with their e9 knowledge. You know who you are, I'm guilty of it too. I disaggree about this being one of the nicer sites for selling, just look at the M5 or M3 boards. People just list their cars and interested parties reply.

At best, a car listed here is good for the buyer. But... I bet a few buyers have been scared away from potentially good cars because of unwarranted comments.

Ask yourself, would you list your own car here?

I personally would, but I'd also represent it correctly. I did find a thread where my car was picked apart before I bought it, and it gave me a few extra negotiating points, and things to look at it.

The forums were fair with their assessment of my car, though now that I have a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the car, I'm sure I would have a hard time remaining objective if someone picked it apart now.

At least now I know where all of the warts are.

Now for the moral question:

1. List it on eBay with some stunning shots and a nice ad copy highlighting the strengths, and go for all of the money by not be honest with those warts

or

2. Offer up same stunning shots, and then all of the warts, knowing that it'll make the car harder to sell, and when it does sell, for less money

I personally like sleeping soundly at night so if and when I sell mine it'll be number 2 style, but I feel like when the forums see a #1 style listing, the tone tends to go negative no matter what.

I didn't quite expect the response to the colour, but at least it is provoking some discussion. That said, I must point out the car has a Eurospec engine.

I am offering a special rate for a ppi if it coincides with fresh snow at whistler!

Vince, what you're describing is in my experience the main drawback with any forum focused on a single make and / or model. Most of the time when it happens it comes across as overly critical or even just rude towards the seller, however to the "insiders" it is justified as useful for buyers.

2-tone

Regarding the paint scheme, some of you other oldtimers may remember Art Wegweiser's beautiful coupe. Polaris with a wide band of Fjord on each side, from the beltline down to the crease (knee level). Art claimed it was factory.

I saw Art's car. He won a lot of awards, said it was factory but I have never ever seen another. Factory custom?

Well I think it is fair to say that a fair amount of discussion developed around the listing of my car. That wasn't my intention, however we all learned something. The one piece of good news for me is Don L's confirming the benefits of owning a Euro spec engine versus a U.S. spec. On that note, while I appreciate all the "hits", I think Don and I will work towards having the car run at Laguna Seca in 2016 during BMW's 100th. With any luck my son will be at the wheel. Best wishes, Tim.
