Hello people on the forum.
My name is Seth Franklin I am 18 years old and have owned five BMW 2002's and I currently own two 1971 2002's. I have a huge passion for the 2002 and now I might be able to snag a 72 CS! I know a lot about 2002's but not so much about the E9. I am looking for some buying advice.



I have an opportunity to buy a 72 3.0CS for $13,500 but I am looking to see if it is worth it. comes with



"alpina style wheels, factory carbs, miscellaneous small parts, e21 recaros with conversation mounts, 5 speed manual and rear diff from 535i."
The parts above are extra parts with the car.

It has a NARDI steering wheel.


has rust in "lower part of front fender and passenger rocker panel, primarily, floor pans solid as is inner fenders." "leaks oil, seeps."

He is selling the car because he is in the middle of a divorce I actually bought 2 2002's off him.

I only have 2 picture of the car at the moment will be getting more when he gets home in 1 week.



I need a little knowledge about the cs!!!

Get it!
The car in the picture does not show Alpina style wheels though.
It is Verona red, which is an original color that many handsome men prefer for the same reason that Elvis painted his BMW red.
If you already bought two cars from the seller and his name is not Richard Nixon then you have the trust factor.
The 5-speed conversion saves you around 4k$ you do not need to spend.
Is the car also in Alaska?
I leave to others discussing the spectre of rust and how to forecast what you are getting into.

You owned 5 BMWs by age 18? I guess you started driving at age 10 then :).
 
It's not an original but it would be fun to have. How's the interior?

yes the car is located in Alaska. haha I have been driving a while.
 
The rust on these is like an iceberg, if you can see any, there's A LOT. And if you don't see any there's probably still a lot. I wouldn't be too worried that the rocker is past the point of deniability (craigslist be like "slight surface rust"), because they're pretty much all going to be bad anyway whether you see it or not. Might as well see it. Here's a couple of great threads that will help you judge the size of the iceberg from the visible portion. There's many others here and elsewhere too.

Don't get too enchanted by the shiny red paint. It's all gotta come off anyway. Pay attention to things that will cost you big money, like trim and interior pieces.

All that said, it's unlikely the car will break in half anytime soon, and you may choose to enjoy it now before you cut it to pieces. If that's the case, I would soak all the cavities with 2-3 cans of this stuff, so it's at least not getting worse in the meantime. You only need one can with the long straw, additional cans without it are cheaper. I say get it. How many Coupes are for sale in your area? I am guessing, like 1. Yes rust is really in there, but you have survived '02 rust, and you have all of us for support, right? You are young, have evenings free! Probably even a warm garage and contacts that can weld and grind. Go, inspect, evaluate, talk, make your best offer. We are all here to help guide you through the phases of Coupe ownership. Yes there are depressing moments, but I have a feeling whatever you read here will not matter, you want this car!
