My good friend Ron I. owns several BMW repair shops here in Orange County and would like to sell his 1973 3.0S. I saw it today and think it is a pretty solid sedan that could benefit from some love from a new owner. It is Polaris and was repainted many years ago, Ron bought it in 2005 from Colorado. It was originally a San Jose CA car from the registration and has a believed 132K miles but it is obviously TMU. Paint has dulled and there is one scratch on the roof and one of his mechanics scraped the right rear fender on a post. The interior is amazing, flawless original headliner, seats have been redone in gorgeous blue leather, original carpets look very nice, rear seat headrests, door threshold trims, no cracks in the dash and it has a Becker Grand Prix stereo! The car is a four speed but Ron would include a five speed with shift platform to convert it. If you want him to install it that would be extra, I would drive it as is for now. Motor still has Zeniths and engine bay has lots of patina (Polaris turns gold with age for some reason here) and still has all of its original stickers. Wheels are Cromadora in great condition and the original steel wheels are included. He has the alu trim for the front windshield and front seat belts retractors have been hidden in the B pillar as was done beginning in 1974. It has been sitting in a corner of his shop for years and the photos will show that. If anyone is a serious buyer I will give you his contact info, he wants it to go to good BMW enthusiast’s home. I think it is worth $10-12K with the five speed which is worth at least $2K with the platform. I am not receiving anything for helping. (Why do iPhone pics not show up as taken?)

I guess that you are right about the I phone pictures; I'd have sworn the interior was black with salt and pepper carpet. LOVE those wheels. Looks like a great, honest car. Sitting in the corner for a few years...Does it go and stop that you know of?

Yes it does. Maybe it is black, there wasn’t much light but Polaris generally comes with Marine Blue interior.

3.0S is carbed , 3.0Si is l-jet which we got in 74 I think

The injected M30 didn't show up until 1975 model year (when the E12 530i also first went on sale here). All big bumper 1974 E3s were carbs still. (at least as I recall from the day). For 1975-76, the Bavaria version went away and only the 3.0 Si was marketed here.

This car has a lot going for it! Polaris might be hard to blend but it seems like a good body and paint guy could address the scrapes on the wheel opening. Someone could have a very good looking classic for not a lot of cash.

Especially in this picture...

....the redone seats look dark grey and the headrests and door cards look black. Did it appear that way in person also?

It is in a corner of his shop, I trust Ron when he says it is solid underneath. He will bring it out for more pics for a serious potential buyer.

Hi Chris,did they make 3.0 s's and si's??

In simple terms, the 3.0S was the carb variant and the 3.0Si was fuel injected. For the European and other global markets, the 3.0S was manufactured from May 1971 to February 1977, with the Si built from September 1971 to January 1977. Initially the Si was equipped with D Jetronic and was mechanically virtually identical to the E9 3.0 CSI, but from October 1975 it changed to L Jetronic.

I don't know much about US regional specification variations though, but US spec 3.0S cars were manufactured from July 1971 to July 1974, with the 3.0Si from September 1974 to July 1976.

Hope that helps!

That's interesting: one of these days I'd like to add one (either a Bavaria or an s/si) to my collection- as a daily driver preferably. I had one a long time ago and absolutely loved it
