1974 3.0 cs in New Orleans Craigslist

It's a sunroof coupe with 5 speed and triple webers on a 733 engine. PM me if you want more detail, I wasn't dressed for crawling under but I can go back for more thorough inspection if anyone is seriously interested. I suggested that the owner join and post here to get more exposure than local, and post the VIN in the registry as that's his call not mine I believe.

So have you seen the car? if so, what were your thoughts?

First impressions

Steve,

Can you elaborate a little? Is this a car someone here should take seriously?

Looks decent in the pictures. Triples and a 5 speed means that someone cared for the car and put some money in it. Pretty original otherwise?

Jerry,

i have a lot of pix of the car sent to me by a friend in New Orleans. the car came to New Orleans by way of Dallas ... not sure where it originated from. i do have the VIN. mechanically i think it is in pretty decent shape, but i am unsure as to why the swap was done - it wasn't a rebuild of the old engine - it came from a 7 series.

the interior is rough (seats need to be completely redone, dash doesn't appear to have cracks + wood is reasonable - unknown carpet condition). the body is pretty good, repainted 8 to 10 years ago w/ no visible rust ... my friend poked and looked the best he could at the usual places (he was armed with the rust diagram / descriptions from this site).
the engine compartment looks reasonable. the coolant reservoir has been moved and there is some funny electrical thing where it was.

hope this helps
scott

The current owner apparently purchased it from a friend who needed the money, now he wants to move it along. When I saw it briefly it was dirty with a bunch of junk in the trunk (literally  ) so it wasn't really presented as well as it could. Scott is right, the coolant reservoir has been relocated to the passenger side cavity by the firewall and some other oddities. In need of some tlc but I didn't do a rust check so I really can't comment on the structural integrity. Gauges in the dash speaker. Color is siennabraun.

RS,

Coupes are one exception where tastefully changing something to a little sportier is widely accepted, appreciated, and worth something. Now just to be fair- that generally doesn't apply to CSLs, Aplinas, etc.

A 733 motor could be Euro, high compression; maybe not. If I was going to stick triples on it, I'd be sure about how to go about it or ask a lot of questions before over carbing something even if they were sitting on my garage shelf for 20 years and free. What everyone forgets is that not so long ago a used BMW motor might have beeen $3000 when the factory was asking $5k.

Steve has something more to say.. let's hear it. Here we're guys helping other guys.

Maybe we all learn a little something.

Unfortunately that's all I know, I don't know the owner or any more about the car, I really only saw it for about 5 minutes. If I knew something of importance/interest I would surely pass it along as I appreciate the help here as much as anyone. I suggested to the owner to join the board here but as far as I know he hasn't.

Steve,

You said it. You're always one to give back.

Bought from a friend who needed money- ( I bet we could write a book about that subject or start a new reality show.)

Wanted to get rid of it- make a little money? Maybe that's how Trump started.

Not in the best presentable shape-mmm; not in my world, but ok speaks volumes.

Will the guy deal? Or does he think it's something unique like a BAT?

Gracias my Bayou friend.

not sure if or how much he would deal ... it was too much of a project for me ... (read expensive) a complete interior seats, door panels + carpet, redo the paint on the roof, sort out any mechanical gremlins that may or may not exist ... and i backed out. a little money wasn't going to solve the issue.
