After 15 years of ownership, still have not started this project, lost interest. Time to sell.

Price: $25,000.00

BMW “Birth Certificate is available. Car was born Baikal Blue (paint code 42) with white leather interior. Automatic transmission. A/C. Sunroof. Delivered new to Max Hoffman, New York. Motor number matches VIN. I didn’t check the transmission number. VIN is 4335256.

History: Purchased the car via Craigslist in 2010 in Fresno, CA. This is where I lived at the time. Car was sitting in a field with other German and Italian cars and all were being liquidated from the seller’s repair shop. I have no idea of previous ownership other than the guy I bought it from. He said” it’s been here awhile” – there is your history. I purchased on a bill of sale only and converted this to a clear California Title of ownership via CA DMV inspection. Currently on Washinton State clear title.

Car had the driver’s side window down when purchased. It had been had been sitting with the window open and interior and miscellaneous parts missing for considerable time. I had plans to convert the car to a track day only car at time of purchase, so I didn’t care that the interior was missing.

As for my original plans and time, car sat in my shop for the last 15 years. I got distracted via Car ADD disease. Air cooled 911’s (4), 914’s (3), 67’ Volvo P1800, 64’ Jaguar 3.8S (2), 66’ MGB, BMW e30’s (A Pro3 Car and 325is), early BMW 1600, 74 MB 450SL, there was a Corvette in there somewhere. This is why the car sat. During this time, I collected parts when available.

Condition: Car is in poor condition, but restorable and worth saving.

The front, rear and passenger side of car do not appear to have had accident or rust damage. Drivers side door is a replacement from an assumed previous accident. Door is from another car that was earlier in manufacturing (no door bracing). This was also the window that was down when purchased.

Motor spins freely and appears all stock, not running.

Rust: Car was located in the Central Valley of CA, so desert like conditions. All rubber is hard as a rock and most is missing due to this high heat climate.

  • Car needs floor pans replaced. This is the largest area of concern. The rust does not appear to have traveled to the rockers, which look solid. I assume that having the window down caused this problem with the rust in floors and sunroof.
  • Sunroof area has rust showing, see picture
  • Spare tire wheel well has two areas of rust.
  • I could not locate rust in suspension areas, fenders, doors etc.
  • Car had a crappy repaint in what appears to have been a similar color, so I can’t guarantee that someone will not find areas of Bondo on the car on the drivers side. The good news is this car was painted a long time ago previous to my ownership, and no rust is coming through areas of the repaint.
Parts going with the car: Everything I have that is E9 has to be taken with the car

  • Interior Seats, not original to car, I collected from another E9 member.
  • I have 2 sets of exterior beltline trim with exception of the front nose bar and drivers’ side front fender. Both of these “singles” are in good shape. The trim is in very good condition.
  • All emblems are available in boxes
  • Tail lights, need restoration. I have new lenses as purchased through the BMW E9 web site.
  • 5 Speed Transmission Conversion: I have a BMW 265 5 Speed conversion package. Pedals, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel. No rear transmission mounting brackets or driveshaft.
  • Rebuilt cylinder head “81”. Appears to have new springs, guides, double valve springs, etc. Maybe cammed.
  • Triple carburetor conversion that came with the head. Italian made Delarto-48’s. with linkage.
  • Headers. Long tube, came with the head.
  • Additional Body parts: I have left and right doors in fair condition. Doors are stripped, shell only. One hood in fair condition. Trunk lid that is fair to poor due to rust starting to appear on seams and has been drilled for spoiler.
  • Driver and passenger door – roll up window conversion.
  • Original bumpers and bumpers from a 72 sedan go with the car.
  • One euro bumper for the rear.
  • Both original front and rear bumpers go with the car.
I probably have some other stuff I’m forgetting, like the CSL front air-dam located at my cousins shop.
