Our weekends in Monterey this year were pretty mixed. The Pre-reunion races went really well. I finished 6th with the CSL in a group full of big block cars and turbo powered Porsches.

However, during my Pre-reunion race in the CSL on Sunday I was chasing Steve Schmidt in is 935 and Allen Turpin in his RSR when we came on some lapped traffic going up to Turn 6. They both got by, but the lapper must not have seen me following them.

As I went under him in Turn 6 he came down on me and forced me up onto that big cement bump inside the apex of the turn. I hit it pretty hard with the left front wheel.

Terry had a close look after the race but couldn't see anything. Nothing showed up during Thursday's Reunion practice so we thought all was well.

During Friday practice I hit the brakes going into Turn 3 and heard and felt a big "CLUNK" from the left front corner. I limped around and went off at Turn 5 and asked the rescue guys to have a look. They couldn't see anything but I wasn't convinced so I drove very slowly back to the paddock on the service road.

Terry got the car jacked up and took off the wheel and found the top of the strut was broken. I was very lucky the strut didn't come loose and wrap itself around the front suspension arm! Anyway, the car was done for the weekend. It is a simple fix, but Terry didn’t have what he needed to make it happen in the truck.

I should have the video edited and posted in a few days.

Glad you are in one piece! Congrats on your efforts.

Update on repairs:

Terry found a set of strut inserts for the Group 4 struts and they are on their way to Racecraft. The car will be ready in time for the SVRA Championships at COTA in November!!

Great to chat with you at the Festorics Steve. So glad the parts have been sourced and Luigi will run in November!

There’s a bunch of us going to SVRA- maybe a visit to see your ride?

Such an awesome looking car... and restoration! And it's being used as intended as well. Congratulations.
