22 th birthday of W&N !

Beware the tax man

I ordered some items from W & N and was pleased with the quality and speedy shipment via DHL. However there were some costs that were unexpected.
The first was the currency exchange fee on my credit card, $22. Then the cost of shipping my not small package was $67. A week later I got a bill from DHL for $31. Duty fee of $20 and a 'delayed payment' charge of $11. I called to ask what that was about and was told the delayed payment fee was actually a flat broker fee to get my shipment through customs.
I did see that the duty charge was based on the total of my order from W&N meaning it included the cost of shipment as well, which isn't right. The difference is less than $2 but still it bugs me.
So next time I order, I'll be better prepared for the costs, which for this order were $120, 17% of my parts cost. Clearly ordering just a few things from them doesn't make sense here in the US.

Ian, All this is quite alien to me here in UK. So far as I am aware we experience none of this stuff. Perhaps we should stick around in the EU after all. John.

We buy from W&N less VAT ....anything over $1k OZ(including shipping )and taxes kick in . Exchange rate is a killer these days for we poor Aussies ..even harder for our Kiwi neighbours .But, still cheaper than local cartel BMW dealer(s) and delivered to my door in about 4days .
