265 Getrag tranny

The transmission is on the work bench the oil has been drained. The oil has been in the transmission for 25 years it is dark brown and very thick. Should this be flushed? If so how and with what ? Have read the posts on what to use to refill how much will fill the gear box to the correct level?

All advice appreciated.

I have used solvent before to clean an older box. Put it in, slosh it around, drain it ALL out and then fill the gearbox. I always put in more than what is called for when the trans is on the bench. Once in, just open the filler hole and let the excess drain until it is just stopped coming out. PIA trying to add more when trans is back in the car
